Do We Have to Get Old and Die?

lucky760 says...

*ditto

But the invincibility point is nonsense. Most humans die from old age, so, yes, you wouldn't be invincible if you didn't die from aging, but that doesn't mean you'd still live a short or normal lifespan.

Also, WikiPedia says naked mole rats live up to 31 years. Is that when their tunnel cave-in is always scheduled by Naked-Mole-Rat-Jesus?

It'd be something to clone a human with the ability to stop aging like naked mole rats and the ability to regrow limbs like salamanders.

"Chinhyakkei" is a great show. Literally translated it means "Rare Scenes." Every week they invite people from around Japan to submit stories or scenery that is unusual or outright bizarre. A TV crew goes out to confirm and record it and then a panel of guest celebrities vote on which is the strangest submission. I think you get some prize money if the one you submit is voted most unusual. Some things I've seen on the show:
- A bicycle vending machine
- A parking lot where you pay the parking fee using one of those old-school vacuum tube conveyor systems
- The man with the longest mole whisker in Japan
- A house shaped like a soccer ball

Frankly I'm kind of surprised more clips from the show haven't ended up here in the wtf channel.

What We Know From The Deepest Hole On The Earth

The Mole people were subjugated by the Crab people shortly after the Kindeling wars. Try to keep your subterranean adversaries straight please.

Here's a part of what I wrote about it back then:

So my paranoia-driven brain tries to work out the scenario:
- did the NSA know about it?
- did the NSA exploit it?
- did the NSA plant it through a mole?
- did Apple add it themselves, at the NSA's request?

Sounds like the BOYS program, doesn't it?

That's a great talk. It's particularly interesting in light of the recent iOS and GnuTLS bugs.

"Owing to secrecy and obfuscation, it is hard to know how much of the NSA’s relationship with the Valley is based on voluntary cooperation, how much is legal compulsion through FISA warrants and how much is a matter of the NSA surreptitiously breaking into technology companies’ systems."

Did you read about the latest massive bug in Apple's SSL implementation? It's a particularly stupid mistake that would have been found instantly if they had adhered to programming standards. It's also easily explained by a botched code-merger or a simple copy-paste misshap.

Yet when I looked into the details that some folks found out, I couldn't help but think that it's odd how this particular bug was introduced in late September of 2012.

Remember, Snowden's files showed us that Apple became part of PRISM in October of 2012.

So my paranoia-driven brain tries to work out the scenario:
- did the NSA know about it?
- did the NSA exploit it?
- did the NSA plant it through a mole?
- did Apple add it themselves, at the NSA's request?

Pre-Snowden, I'd have said somebody fucked up and that's the end of it. Nowadays however, Hanlon's razor doesn't fly anymore, so I wouldn't rule out malicious intent.

Lymphoma and Death Instead of Red Flaky Skin? Sign Me Up!

Psoriasis is a lot worse than a mole.

Fatal infections, lymphoma, and other types of cancer, problems with blood, liver, and nervous system, as well as serious allergic reactions and new or worsening heart failure all probably didn't happen to just 1 really unlucky person in 100.

I know you're just throwing numbers out there, but that's also misleading. The truth is that regardless of test results, if you take the drug you have some unknown chance of suffering any or all of a long list of severe or even fatal side effects depending solely on your personal health and biology.

If you want to take that chance, go for it, especially if the risks are worth the potential reward to you.

To me, though, it's like swinging an axe to remove a mole from your forehead.

This is a bit misleading.
Those side effects could have had happened in 0.01% of test cases, but by law they are required to list them all.
So it's not like 50/50...

True Facts About The Naked Mole Rat

I feel like this is the proper way, I'd rather see the other True facts videos being related to this, other than more Mole rat videos, since I would watch this and ask myself if there are more like this.

PlayhousePals, I think it's better to use properly tag all these videos rather than explicitly mark them as related...Since they are not really "related" other than being created by the same group
