Chicago’s Defund The Police Leads to Supermarkets Closing

newtboy says...

As usual, Bobby gets it 100% backwards and grammatically incorrect.

Republican policies always require a Democratic solution.

Supermarkets aren’t closing due to high crime, they largely never existed in these neighborhoods. More idiotic lies by the moronic pathological liar.
Whole foods? In a low income neighborhood? Who could have predicted that would fail? Only anyone with an IQ over 17…so not bob or the people who tell him what to think.

Edit: The hilarious irony with your position, bob, is that “defund the police” (admittedly a terrible name) had the goal of deTASKING police away from mental health calls (and other minor civil issues) that police tend to escalate into serious problems, charges and/or injuries or death requiring massive responses and burning resources when a mental health professional could usually de escalate the situation and get the patient proper medical care without incarceration or worse. It would allow police to focus on crimes like shoplifting, crimes you claim closed these never-existed supermarkets in low income area food deserts.
Side note, so you know, police funding hasn’t actually been cut. It’s still going up in almost every department in every state.

Who last balanced the budget, Bobby? Does your cult addled brain remember…or do you insanely think the answer is Trump? Likely the latter, despite him adding more to the debt and deficit than any two term president, and don’t ignore that he injured the state of the union more than any issue or person in history….and is a rapist.

Oliver Anthony - Rich Men North Of Richmond

newtboy says...

I guess you didn’t read…when he finally put out a personal statement, it was mostly about how upset he was at the right co-opting his song because wrote it about them.

The audience however heard every dog whistle, and when they found out he wasn’t racist and was singing about right wing politicians not Biden they dropped him like a hot potato. I’m afraid you are wrong again, the right definitely heard those dog whistles and are pissed he didn’t intend them.

Easy…when he said he thinks diversity is a strength of America, nearly half his right wing audience said “I’m out” and “try saying that in a small town” and no longer call themselves fans…because they’re racist and thought he was too. You can find thousands in the comments sections where his videos were posted before he spoke out. Here’s 8-10…Just read some…
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/viral-sensation-oliver-anthony-called-a-sellout-for-relatively-benign-“diversity”-comment-he-mad
e-on-fox-news/ar-AA1fG7Ct

I’m afraid it’s just know nothing people who latched onto what they heard as a racist anti welfare, conservative song who suddenly ran for the hills when they realized it and he were in fact anti conservative that suddenly hate this song. I admit I listened to it through “conservative ears” (since it was billed as the new conservative anthem) and I also heard every dog whistle they did, meaning it’s a really poorly worded song since so many got its message completely wrong. Even the Republican debate used it, which he found hilarious since the candidates were exactly who he wrote it about…but they were clueless about the irony.

He should have taken the $8 million, he’s going to fade into obscurity without the political backing he was getting.

So let me ask, now knowing he was talking about conservative politicians not liberals, and knowing he believes in diversity not tribalism…are you still a fan? (I know, you don’t/can’t answer questions). I’m not, despite learning all we now know about his intended message…but I retract my accusation that he MEANT it to be racist or hyper conservative.
Yes, I was w-w-w-wrong about HIM, but not his audience or the message they heard. Not the first or last time, but I can admit it when I’m wrong.

bobknight33 said:

You ever think that you are totally wrong on this .

Not racist, Not Anti American, Not MEGA.

Perhaps you are hearing another "dog whistle". Odd thing is that only democrats hear these dog whistles.

People are tired of being screwed and not listen to by their government.

If racist as you say fined a non media reaction to this that indicates so. Find 3

Perhaps its know it all people like you who want to divide people, who want to keep poor people down just for their vote.

It’s the height of irony that the reich banned 1984 so students wouldn’t have an example of the government the reich is trying to create.

It’s the height of hypocrisy when they advocate teaching the Bible, with the most disgusting incestual rapes, murders, torture, etc, proving they don’t care about these things but actually just used them disingenuously against ideas they disapprove of.

Curb your "safe" crypto exchange

cloudballoon says...

That's.... selective editing. If you watch the full ad then it's more like a straight up "You'll be a sucker if you don't get into crypto pronto!" message than being incisively prescience.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-FQqo46CJQ

Larry's more in the same boat as the likes of Matt Damon & Kim Kadashian here. However, the after-the-fiasco irony in the ad could/should avoid landing Larry into lawsuits/hotwater like those 2 actors did (unless he also pump & dump, contrary to his message, which I don't know yet?).

Uh-oh!

newtboy says...

The irony could not be more delicious.
In 2018, in an effort to put Clinton in prison and invalidate her as a candidate in the future, Trump and Republicans signed into law new, much harsher penalties for taking and keeping classified documents inappropriately. These new penalties were a (mandatory ?) 5 year sentence and making it a “hard” felony that cannot be lowered to a misdemeanor by pleading guilty. My read is that’s one charge for every page.
Also, it seems some of the stolen documents are top secret defense documents concerning our nuclear weapons…the most ultra classified information our government has…kept in an unlocked basement in an often empty, unguarded home.
Seems Trump inadvertently just made himself totally ineligible to run for office and likely an inmate for life. D’oh!

So, @bobknight33, Trump’s FBI head and a Trump judge followed a Trump enacted law to investigate Trump for definitely doing exactly what the right was apoplectic at the mere suggestion Clinton might have done but could find no evidence of.

BTW -Trump won’t release the warrant or receipt of what they took because it would include details about the meeting and subpoena he was served with in June after refusing to turn over the documents voluntarily since January when they were first discovered and requested by the DOJ…a subpoena he ignored forcing the raid…and would also list much of the ultra top secret defense documents concerning our nuclear arsenal he was keeping while hosting Russians, Chinese, Saudis, Israelis, maybe even N Koreans at his home where these secrets were being kept unsecured. There are serious questions as to whether he sold any to enemies of the state. There’s no question at all that he would if the price was right.

Edit: ESPIONAGE, OBSTRUCTION, REMOVING GOVERNMENT RECORDS
because they charge espionage, it doesn’t matter if he thinks and claims, like a king, saying the documents were declassified makes them declassified because it doesn’t hinge on the documents being classified, only if it’s harmful to our security if they’re unsecured. Bye Felicia!

Jon’s Response To Ted Cruz’s PACT Act Lies

luxintenebris says...

here's the rub...

this is Stewart's issue - has been for over many years - and not caught him lying or misrepresenting this (or anything else w/consistantcy)*. in the past, he's had to champion the cause to get it passed: GOP being the snaggy hags. so, go w/him knowing the bill, what's in it, and hold his observatons valid.

on the flip side, it's plausible Cruz had a defense but he is the reason they read 'Don't Cry Wolf' to kids. [become an incessant lying punk and when you need people to believe you - it's another lie to them.]

discretionary vs mandatory smells of an obfuscation (the fist bumping after the bill was nixed didn't help the believability either). also the gall of a Republican saying they fear 'out of control spending' is rich w/irony.**

don't believe Cruz. believe Stewart. just prudent that way.

NOTE: if the Red would highlight the problems w/the bill, either by speech or postings (not f'n' opinion)***, it would go a long way to make their side to look honestly honest. and no, they aren't known for their veracity. or compassion. i.e. prove it pedro.

*only once he misspoke, then corrected it. w/humility. hell, we all make mistakes: voted for Reagan once.

Today’s Jan 6 Hearing Summary And Possible Trump Charges

newtboy says...

What a retort to getting caught believing dumb lies again….this time with the most ironic lie I can fathom. Repeating the made up quote “Smart people learn from everything and everyone, average people from their experiences and stupid people already have all answers" Socrates” without ever trying to learn from anyone and thinking you have the answers because you read something you liked online. Someone should send this to Morissette as a example of actual irony.

The Myth of Cuban Health Care

noseeem says...

not certain why this video, but 'Sicko' was 3 administrations ago.

did notice a couple 'wtf' moments. Harvey Weinstein in the background and an NRA logo on a doctor's desk. Harv made for an uneasy moment but a physician w/NRA (support/irony) is kind of a conflict of interest.

bit of a gamble for bk bringing up healthcare when some of the countries w/best healthcare, run a universal system.

okay. skip Cuba's, take Denmark's. would settle for Canada's (they are always ranked above the US on almost every meteric)

Don’t you ever get tired getting called out on your blatant, stupid lies?

You must be a masochist, or hate yourself. You make yourself look like a bigoted ignorant sexist moron every day spewing lies and nonsense from your cock holster.

Every single day you post, you post lies and false propaganda….then get proven a liar and gullible ignoramus. Why do you like that so much? It’s clearly intentional. Do you get paid for each response to your trolling? It’s the only thing that makes sense.

Edit-
BTW, how are you enjoying MTG floundering, twisting, and getting caught outright lying on the stand?
Lawyer : Do you remember saying Nancy is a traitor?
Greene: I’m not answering that, no, it’s speculation. I didn’t say that.
Lawyer: Pull up exhibit 5 please…
Greene: Hold on now, wait…

She lost her case right there….continuing….

Lawyer: directing you to page 4, the paragraph that starts out “she’s a traitor to our country.
MTG lawyer: I object, what possible relevance could it be that she had political disagreements that result in hyperbole that is commonly used…(it’s precisely what the case is about)
Judge: overruled
Lawyer: ms Green, did you say “she’s a traitor to our country, she’s guilty of treason, she took an oath to protect American citizens, she gives aid and comfort to our enemies who would illegally invade our land. That’s what treason is, and our law representatives and senators can be kicked out and no longer serve in our government (irony!), and it’s a crime punishable by death is what Treason is. Nancy Pelosi is guilty of treason.” Did you say those words?
Green: I said, I, this is what I was telling you. She doesn’t uphold our laws….
Lawyer: it’s a simple yes or no question, did you say those words?
Green lawyer: objection, harumph harumph harumph.
Judge: did you say those words that are quoted on the bottom of that? Did you say that?
Green: According to this cnn article I did, I don’t remember.
Judge: do you recall saying it?
Green: I don’t recall saying all of this, but I do recall having said this about…I totally disagree with the border issues.

She is so toast not even powdered toast man could save her.

I would like to point out that she directly said Pelosi is a traitor and should be punished with death, and thinks that’s perfectly acceptable, but she made multiple police reports and tried to get Kimmel arrested for saying “where’s Will Smith when we need him”, implying she needs a good slap….that she thinks deserves prison time.
Such infantile snowflakes Trump made out of Republicans. Whining little bitches, one and all.

Pedophile Bohbert is next (she helped her husband intentionally expose his penis to 2 YOUNG girls in public, supporting him through his conviction and sentences.). Then cocaine orgy Cawthorn. Party of debauchery….HA!

Rich people do pay their fair share. Its called tax code. They did not write the code our Leaders did.
So don't bitch at rich people, bitch at our leaders

According to the latest IRS data for 2018— the top 1 percent of taxpayers paid $616 billion in income taxes. That amounts to 40 percent of all income taxes paid, the highest share since 1980..

Just proves republicans also have stupid people who do not think .

Worse yet is that there are leaders who believe this false narrative also. They are themselves rich.. If they are so moved into paying their fair share why don't they just write a check to the IRS.

Better yet is to quit spending money on shit we don't need with money we don't have.

Sam Harris | Joe Rogan and the Ethics of Apology

noseeem jokingly says...

Nice that he gets the understanding and benefit of the doubt. So what about Whoopi?

She hosts a show based on sharing viewpoints. She gave her's. Nothing offense other than, perhaps, ignorance (like that's in short supply nowadays) which could have been checked during the show. Maybe throw Joy under the bus too? Behar and Goldberg. (oh. the irony)

The zaniness of talking about "Maus" being banned, then having a decent, honest human, punished for something so much, much, less trivial is madding.

"Man's inhumanity to man" gets her quiet time. Which book are they throwing at her?

If Joe can be tolerated for more, Whoopie should be for less.

PFAS: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)

bremnet says...

Howdy - I don't know if "addressed" is the right word. Commented on, but not given sufficient perspective. Having said that, the problem is incredibly complex, so there should be no expectation that Mr. Oliver's video or any other single thesis on the topic could possibly suffice.

Your "one chemical bond difference" is an appropriate consideration, but with recognition that once we reach on the order of C20-C40 length dispersable or emulsifiable molecules as surfactants / surface energy modifiers, the insoluble polymers come into play, with not 30'ish bonds growing one at a time, but leaping to 20,000 or more. No doubt the pool has already been irreversibly pissed into by the irresponsible producers that convert small molecules into very, very large ones, but with some control, responsibility, and integrity in our industrial process owners (yes, hell just froze over) there is no reason why we could not safely continue to produce the polymeric forms of PFAS. We do so for substantially more toxic chemical conversion processes today.

It's interesting to note the (usual) examples brought forward by others in this post (Teflon cookware), just waiting for someone to mention Gore-Tex, but by far the biggest impact won't be on consumer goods that we all touch regularly and recognize the name brands of, but will be on the industrial / commercial uses of these polymeric families that are pervasive in the systems / processes that we all derive benefit from every day. Ironies exist, that perhaps confuse the "all PFAS are bad" premise ... consider - effectively every seal, gasket and control valve in a water purification plant is most commonly made of a PFAS polymeric compound, PTFE included, all tested to rigorous specifications and compliance by specific agencies that do nothing other than deal with potable water (thankfully not the EPA - it's National Sanitation Foundation (the other NSF), or Water Research Advisory Scheme (WRAS) in the UK etc.) .

So my contention and the view of many in the end user community is that it's not the final form of some of these compounds that are bad, it's the horrendous messes we leave producing them. We can't unwind our Clock of Dumb, but killing the entire crop just to get rid of the long ago seeded weeds doesn't solve the actual problem, it makes it much, much larger.

Thanks for your comments.

To be fair, most of your complaints were addressed in the piece.

For instance, medical implants, fairly stable, yes, but not in extreme heat like cremation, so as used they’re toxic to the environment despite being considered stable and inert.

The reason to ban them all was also explained, banning one toxic substance at a time means one chemical bond difference and the company can go ahead with Cancer causer 2.0 for a decade until it’s banned for being toxic, and then repeat. It’s how they’ve operated for decades.

I’m fine with outlawing the entire class and putting the onus on the chemical companies to prove any new variants are safe instead of forcing the hamstrung epa to prove they’re unsafe. I also think any company that dumped it into waterways should be instantly and completely forfeited to pay for cleanup. No company has the funds to pay for cleanup, but their assets are at least a start.
