Holographic map

RFlagg says...

Yes, the color here seems pretty amazing compared to what I am used to seeing in holograms. Not quite a map though since this is a static image, if you could do a full Google Maps sort of things then that would add to how cool it is.

I remember coming across a shop selling loads of holograms in Amsterdam. Most were monochromatic, but a few were in colour and very impressive.

My problem with the Star Wars in the air projection is the black levels have to suck in a regular living room. It seems like the illusion would be less convincing if projected in the air than if projected on a panel where it could be more like watching it through a window... at least until holodeck technology comes along.

>> ^ponceleon:

It is good, but I disagree that it is the "good kind of 3d."
I'm still waiting for REAL 3d projection. Like in Star-Wars where they project the deathstar as an actual 3d object in the air.

I love Reach, but they made it less skill-based. I understand that this was in the interest of making it a more "team"-oriented game, but when I can't mash on two fucking noobs just because 4 body shots plus one headshot is THE SAME THING as 5 headshots with the DMR, I feel fucking betrayed. Now that the SWAT playlist is live, that and Rumble Pit are the only thing I'll be touching. It's still a good game, but making it noob-friendly kills a lot of my enjoyment as somebody who's okay at the game.

Heh, I actually have some good stuff happen to me with Armour lock. People don't seem to realize that when the guy comes out, if you're too close, you're hit with an EMP burst losing shields.
Can't tell you how many double kills I've gotten by having two idiots just stand beside me in armour lock.
Oh, and then there's always this beauty.

Haha, that's always great. Sprint is my overall favorite, but lately I've been having a lot of fun with Hologram, and Armor Lock is always useful, especially if you have a teammate to drop a nade on the morons just waiting for you to come out of it so they can melee you. In a one-on-one situation, dropping your armor lock for anything other than blocking a quick melee is pretty disadvantageous oftentimes though, because if they have four nades they can just space them so that you WILL die as soon as you come out of it (if they're thinking, that is).

Today is "Back to the Future" (Cinema Talk Post)

So glad this was proven a hoax - we still have time for the flying cars, rehydratable pizza hut, and giant CGI Jaws that jumps out of the marquee. Also, Mattel - get fucking busy - you have 4 years for anti-grav research.

Dag--Will we have 3D videos, holograms, etc. from VS by then?

What the fuck is wrong with someone, reacting to a non sequitur? (I know how some folks can get hung up on words used in or out of context on the site.....Well, shall we analyze??

The video obviously has nothing to do with several of the tags I used...Kellogs, Obama, Pfizer or waterboarding-Nor did I expect the damn thing to get published given the stick planted firmly in the asses of a majority of the people on the site, who would rather
the convenience and comfort of remaining virtually asleep and unconscious concerning the multi-layered world they live in. It's predictable, it's programmed, it's human, it's robotic.

The theme my friend?? I have maintained the same persona here in the face of derision, misunderstanding, and the collective developmental disabilities of so many folks. I have been called a troll and gladly embrace the distinction, for it is who I am in the world of flesh and blood as well. I have many acquaintances, friends and foes, allies and enemies, the same goes with the internet.

Project Bluebeam existed or still exists, and involves holographic deception on a grand scale. The technology is there, as evidenced in the giant hologram over Moscow of a pyramid, which is all over the internet should you wish to do the research. Do you think it strange that of the ilk of the fundamentalists on the planet that staging the second coming of Christ is outside of the realm of possibility??

I encourage the downvoting, as I have always tried here to get people to drop a fucking nut and use the powers afforded them to express themselves. I never expected for a second that this video be published. I find it sophomoric and poorly executed as well, however, information is information is information.

If you see Jesus coming in the clouds, it's probably the blackest form of the dark arts, from the most putrid examples of humankind.

X2 - Nightcrawler in the White House

budzos says...

They shoulda had him in X3 with a love interest. Give him the hologram generator thing from the Dave Cockrum\John Byrne days and show him come to grips with being himself.. That's the REAL X-Men... from the mid-70s to the early 80s there were a lot of truly character driven storiesand arcs like that. Since about the late 80s, most of what is referred to as character driven is actually marketing driven, and has been pretty consistently crap... almost no X-Men comics from the 90s can sustain a re-read.

It's going to be 2015 in just about five years. Where is my hoverboard? Where are my flying cars and my reverse shrinky-dink pizzas? What about that shark hologram and the self drying, self tailoring jacket? And for god sake, my plastic vest that makes chicken noises?!
All that stuff somehow seemed reasonable to me when I was a kid.

No need for all this crap! Now you have The Internets, the iPhone, and Twitter!!

Why buy a hybrid? Just paint your roof white! (Science Talk Post)

csnel3 says...

Then when the winter comes do we all paint our roofs black? It would save a lot of energy that would be used to heat our homes.
Then we could pass a law to have our roofs painted white by June. We would all have to remove our studded tires and paint our roofs or pay the fine!
I don't think this will catch on.
Years ago, a kid at a science fair invented a roof shingle that changed is reflectivity when the seasons changed. When the sun is at a high angle(summer) the roof tile reflected light. when the sun is at a low angle (winter) the tile appeared dark, and absorbed the heat. like those little hologram images that are on lots of things these days.
Sounds Greener then painting the world white.

> No, he is actually correct. A hologram is a very specific thing.
No, an "Off-axis" hologram is a very specific thing. Those 1960s-type off-axis holograms require lasers both for recording and for reconstruction (playback.) Those are the very definition of "hologram."

That was exactly my point.

It was not to indicate how I myself use the word hologram, I would without any hesitation refer to your work as holograms had socco2 not made his point. I just saw it as 'neat' that he caught that.
