EmptyFriend says...

>> ^dystopianfuturetoday:

'Misunderestimate' is a Bushism, and I think marinara used the term purposely because he hates America. He hates us for our freedumb.
>> ^EmptyFriend:

good clip though, i watched this series when it was on tv.

true! But you seem to welcome a solid statism that emboldens this kind of shit. Why is that? I understand that being part of a union in the US typically warrants a desire for government involvement, but it's the dwindling of our rights, freedoms and liberty that makes me question why any of us would honor a system of government that puts such atrocious tyranny upon our shoulders.

Your problem is that you can't differentiate the good from the bad when it comes to government. When you lump health care and teachers right in there with the patriot act and the Iraq war and then call it "statism", it makes your point of view seem simplistic, inflexible, insecure, partisan and very petty. I know the term was designed to be used as a scary political epithet, but though over use it's become a word of levity on this site. You've even got gwiz using it as a neutral term in this thread.

If you want to influence people, you need to understand them a bit, have some empathy and know where they're coming from. You can't just say 'Hey kronos, why are you such a tyrannical, union loving, fascist? Why do you reject the pure love, light and liberty of my political perspective?" That kind of rhetoric is really no different from your 'with us or against us' George Bushisms; just as insular and narrow minded, though grammatically far superior.

Part of the problem lies in the word 'libertarian' itself. Liberty means many things to many people, and when you use that term to define your own subjective political ideology, you've left the realm of political discourse and entered the realm of religious dogma.

How would you feel if I claimed that progressivism were the true ideology of freedom and liberty, and that by opposing me you also oppose liberty and freedom? Would that influence you? Would that make you want to join me? Or would you think I was just deluding myself by invoking a beloved term as a shield to hide my own selfish beliefs and desires behind?

For argument's sake, what if I could convince you that your concept of liberty was subjective? Would that change your thinking? Would it make your ideology less meaningful? I'd love an answer to that last question.

FOX News: Obama "Indoctrinating" Kids

Nithern says...

With Obama, the material seems to be thought provoking and deep. Here's a few from GWB. That's right boys and girls, this is how a CONSERVATIVE President talks:

"One of my conserns is that the health care not be as good as it can possibly be." --On benefits provided to military personnal, Tipp City, Ohio, April 19, 2007.

"I want everybody to hear loud and clear that I'm going to be the president of everybody." --Washington D.C., January 18, 2001.

"You know, one of the hardest parts of my job is to connect Iraq to the war on terror." --Interview with CBS News, Washingon, D.C., September 6, 2006.

"Make no mistake about it, I understand how tough it is, sir, I talk to families who die." --Speaking to reporters on facing the challenges of war, Washington, D.C., December 7, 2006.

"If the Iranians were to have a nuclear weapon, the could proliferate." --Washington, D.C., March 21, 2006.

Yes, got to love the Bush talking points back in the day. When one really had to back up, and rethink what the idiot said. Funny how Fox News does not talk about 'No Child Left Behind"; like they rather that conservative act be forgotten as soon as possible.

Btw, the quotes do come from Mr. George W. Bush, but found them in the book "The Ultimate George W. Bushisms" by Jacob Weisberg.

Sarah Palin's Greatest Hits! [TPMtv]

kagenin says...

To expand on what the big v said, No, people should not stop posting the "Palin is a moron" vids because that's exactly what the GOP wants. They would love nothing more than to change the subject and get us talking about something else. That's what their whole campaign is banking on - the short attention span of most Americans.

I hope volumptuous and others like him keep posting vids like this up until election day. As long as she's out in the open, she's going to be a target, and its up to people like us to make sure that the shots are taken, and that she is shown to be what she really is - a person who is NOT qualified, NOT ready, NOT able to handle the role that is in front of her.

It is INSULTING to the American people that this is the best that the GOP have to offer - the man who finished 894th out of 899 cadets in his class, and a woman who took 5 years to finish a 4-year degree in communications-journalism. These are NOT smart people by any stretch of the imagination, at a time when we NEED smart people behind the helm of this country. After 8 long years of Bushisms, inarticulate speeches, fear-mongering and cronyism, we NEED something better than what the GOP decided was good enough.

Sarah Palin: Energy Expert or Billy Madison?

Krupo says...

OMG, if they win, we'll take a giant step closer to Idiocracy.

>> ^pho3n1x:
while "fungible" is a real word (someone said if anyone during their campaign uses a bushism, they automatically relinquish their right to be voted for), i don't understand the context she used it in. fuck, now i'm confused.
if it weren't for her horse, she wouldn't have spent that year in college, i bet.

Still hating Bush? You've never met the man, you've never read anything about him other than opinions by liberals

Stopped taking you seriously there.

Do you genuinely want me to believe that Bush is actually incredibly intelligent but there is a huge scheme (even at his own conferences and interviews) subscribed to by thousands of people worldwide, elaborately concealed and orchestrated to hide every shred of evidence that the man is intelligent?

There'd have to be 1 million hours of footage of him being intelligent to countermand all the evidence that he's a buffoon. People have been following, listening, recording and filming him for what, 8 years? And most of what we have as a record of him is him talking bullshit or making an idiot of himself

"If Bush is "stupid", even with test scores higher than Frenchy Kerry's, then it's a very poor reflection on your taxocrats in Congress that they DANCE to his tune; most Bush legislation has passed handily and easily."
-- A number of things here. Firstly, you're under the impression that George Bush comes up with every single thing that passes, becomes law, or is an ethic that his administration works toward. Secondly, you appear to also be under the impression that "Congress" (i am not american) is free of interpersonal politics, bias, or policy-buying. It'd be the first governmental body that was in the history of this planet. Thirdly, you're arguing that Bush must be intelligent because people follow him, which is the biggest error of judgement. I don't think i need to elaborate here. This is not an argument in favour of bush being intelligent. Whatsoever.

"Liberals create their own false image of who Bush is then make a show of tearing it down. Meanwhile, in the real world, there have been no attacks on American soil since 9-11 and Iraq has free elections."
-- There were no attacks on American soil the first time you pissed off the countries that are currently trying to attack you. It took them 20 years or more, but when they made an attack, they made the most devastating terrorist attack ever seen, which affects america and americans and freedom in america (tapping phones, torture) years and years after the event. Comments like this are the reason why americans are viewed as stupid.

Your argument is so easy to demolish it's not even challenging. Or maybe i'm a liberal building you up to be something you're not and then making a show of knocking you down.

Maybe, but you put your bullshit up there to be interpreted, and i "interpretated" it. Bushism ftw. BTW i'm english, i have no "liberal" or "conservative" point of view, i have only my personal opinion. As does everyone else, but you don't seem to be able to accept that.
