Phil Ochs - I ain't marchin' any more

my15minutes says...

the only thing i uploaded to my youtube account, knowing that it would probably get yanked by the copyright owner (Viacom- which owns Mtv, VH1, ComedyCentral, etc) ?

was Eddie Vedder's live cover/update of Phil Ochs' "Here's to the State of Mississippi", on VH1's "Storytellers", from almost 2 years ago now...

[EDIT - which i have just sifted:

Finally the media tells the truth - BillO a jerk and buffoon

On Stukafox's note Fox news has nothing to be embarrassed about. Bill gets them the rating they want and need. They arent getting rid of him or any other crazies because people tune in to watch them, though maybe not listen. Its like the Howard Stern phenomenon to where at one point everyone who hated him was listening to his show just so they can bitch about it. Fox News is the same, love it or hate it there are millions of both who are watching. Who should be embarrassed in the American people for it being a "news" station but hey we love our Jerry Springer, Jackass, VH1 celebreality, reality shows in general, and any other type of media that depicts us as such as shallow stupid society so in some twisted way we feel better about ourselves. Its like America has become so self hating we are actually buying into now. I still hold on to the hope that a bombshell will drop and we will all wake up, Fox News will be taken off the air, the long awaited death of reality TV will come...but then I realize I live in the real world and not the Matrix and such things will never happen

Salt-n-Pepa with En Vogue: What a Man

oxdottir says...

When this came out, I was coming out of a work/family fog and just beginning to enjoy MTV/VH1 as legitimate entertainment as opposed to something you watched only if it was on a screen in a club or while waiting to pay for something in a store. It was a period when I was reconnecting to popular culture, and this video hit me hard. I didn't think I liked rap before this video, and from here, I went backwards and forwards and began to like all kinds of rap. Before this, I had somehow formed the extremely prejudiced opinion that rap was only about tearing down and expressing hate and anger and not about anything else. Not that I'm against art used to express disdain or hate, but I just hadn't seen the art form clearly before this at all.

And I just loved all those women and watching them move.

Diversity in appreciation is good. I bet there are others out there like me who really loved this video, and others like overcast who say meh. That's what makes for horse racing...

Zoolander VH1 Fashion Awards Skit

catsaway9 says...

I read on Wikipedia that they did this video for the 1996 VH1 Fashion Awards (as stated), and a second one for the 1997 VH1 Fashion Awards. I've tried searching for the 1997 version but can't find it. Anyone??

Bruce Springsteen - Streets of Philadelphia (live)

Twyx the gobbling cat

callistan says...

I think a viral video is one that is popularized by the internet itself, as opposed to a clip from, say, a movie or television broadcast.

The distinction is a blurry one, to be sure, particularly now that VH1 has a show dedicated to clips popularized by the internet.

What Metallica sounds like without Pro-Tools

swampgirl says...

Oh this is hilarious. Fake or no, they deserve it after the dismal VH1 special they did a couple a years ago.
Hetfield turned into a whiny boy that couldn't work more than 4 hours a day so his feelings wouldn't get hurt. I can't believe how the band put up w/ it.

Once you hear my audio demo, you'll just be blazed!

Hanson - Mmmbop

lisacat says...

Upvote! I love a well-crafted pop song.

"MMMBop" was a number-one hit worldwide. It was also one of the biggest debut singles of all time; in Australia it became only the second debut single to enter the ARIA charts at the number one position. It was voted the best single of the year in The Village Voice Pazz & Jop critics poll, while also topping critics' polls from such media as Rolling Stone, Spin, and VH1. "MMMBop" was nominated for two Grammys at the 40th Annual Grammy Awards in February 1998."

Heheh. So who was better? Darwin or Flipper? http://aqfl.net/?q=node/3873

In reply to your comment:
talking dolphins don't end up as tuna, Darwin's probably teaching preschool somewhere
In reply to your comment:
Yeah. I was sad when I found out back then. Oh well. I guess Darwin ended up as someone's tuna too.

In reply to your comment:
whaaa? no, I did not... I guess he didn't want to end up on Celebrity Fit Club, Surreal Life, or any of the VH1 programming that survives on washed-up child stars.

In reply to your comment:
Oh and did you know Jonathan Brandis suicided about four years ago? http://imdb.com/name/nm0000970/
