Prowler Catapult Launch
That's what flying out of John Wayne in Orange County feels like. The last time I flew out of there, the pilot didn't do a standard roll. He pushed the throttles to max while holding the brakes, then popped the brakes and off we went. There's a noise-abatement zone just beyond the airport, so the pilots go up like rocket, then cut the throttles back and it feels like the plane is dropping out of the sky.
Movie Accent Expert Breaks Down 31 Actors Idiolects
Favorite part is the contrast between 11:37 John Wayne as Genghis Khan and 11:44 Meryl Streep as Julia Child. Awesome.
Battlefield 1 Official Single Player Trailer
No kidding. Looks like Lawrence of Arabia, John Wayne and Indiana Jones all thrown in a blender.
You'll get trench foot from all the pathos dripping from these games...
Hollywood Whitewashing: Last Week Tonight, Feb2016
I find a lot of these complaints to be pretty silly. Particularly the roles of 40+ years ago, like John Wayne as Genghis Khan, etc.
And The Last Samurai is awesome. OK, Tom Cruise (white guy) is the main character -- because he is a lens through which an American audience can reflect on the respect that he gains for the real (Japanese) samurai. All the roles that the script/plot dictates should be played by Japanese people are. I'd even argue that the title doesn't refer to Tom Cruise's Nathan Algren, but rather to the whole group of samurai (notice how the word can be plural or singular) led by Ken Watanabe's Katsumoto.
There are some (plenty of?) legit gripes about "whitewashing" movies, but accusing movies like the The Last Samurai of it (when they are actually doing things exactly right and making a movie FULL of non-white roles played by non-white people) seems counterproductive to the argument...
An Unfortunate History of White Actors Playing Other Races
Laughed out loud at John Wayne as Genghis Khan.
*quality ending
Not Something You Expect To Record On Your Dash Cam
That's so funny. That's something I often *expect* to see. I didn't hear about this but that happened right down the street from me. I see planes in the air around John Wayne Airport all the time and every time I do I imagine one's coming down for an emergency landing on the street.
Never have I witnessed or heard about it actually happening here!
Denzel is... THE EQUALIZER
Well, sure, he doesn't have a ton of range, but he's a movie star. He doesn't need to have range, nor do we particularly require it of him. Pretty much every movie star in the history of cinema plays some variation on themselves in every role -- people like George Clooney, Will Smith, or Tom Cruise (or going further back, Cary Grant, Clark Gable, or John Wayne) rarely mix it up too much, because they are movie stars and their established persona is part of what makes them so bankable. That doesn't make them bad actors, it just makes them a specific type of actor.
He's got some charisma, but he's not a good actor. Lawyer Denzel, Angry Cop Denzel, Pilot Denzel, Blind Post-Apocalyptic Bible-Carrying Denzel, they're all the same mannerisms and emotions.
Top 10 Worst Movie Casting Choices
Thought so too, like, how do you cast a remake of King Kong anyhoo?? Black's character in that film in particular (can't really stand him in most films) suited the director's groove and Black's level of Jack...writing totally sucked, because why? Can't recall a single LINE!!! (close to 3 grueling hours)
@playback-HAH! Portrayed himself perfectly, pulled a Matrix like Reeves
John Wayne as Genghis screams tomes of the inner-workings of the OCD God of ta-tas and aeroplanes, that film was excruciatingly surreal-Howard Hughes flicks and a sanitized hotel suite with theater seats and room service....A freak can dream, can't he?
Jack Black was interesting to watch, as he usually is, so his work in King Kong was fine by me.
Eric Clapton -Wonderful Tonight By Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson
I'd maybe, be faintly interested in anything to do with professional wrestling, if the acting were ever better than fifth graders.
Johnson does a decent job in his movies...at least as well as John Wayne ever did. He seems to only have one character in his repertoire...likely his own, but he does do that one role well. However, he apparently -can- sing a decent tune. Surprise!
Even when it comes to his movies, I only watch because my wife makes me.
Study Dispels Concealed Carry Firearm Fantasies
yeah, you see? that's the problem with vibe-based arguing. You tend to miss the mark a lot. compared to actual evidence-based arguing. In fact, you seem to be confused and have mistaken me for someone else.
you seem to be arguing with someone who thinks that everyone thinks they're John Wayne. Unfortunately, I never said this.
I certainly hope you can find this mysterious individual with whom you are having a discussion. Maybe I can be included in this discussion so that I might be able to voice my actual opinion and actual discourse can occur,
@VoodooV
I wasnt trying to put words in your mouth. I stated that "I got a feeling"....An overall vibe, from your comment , and then I described the gist that I got. And I dont think I was reading it wrong .
My second statement , that you say are not your words, is in quotation marks because you said
" kinda falls into the "duh" category. It's virtually everyone's fantasy to go in guns blazing" . My point was that not everyone that carrys a gun is in a fantasy land and thinks that they are John fuckin Wayne, which IS the idea that you are trying to sell.
I dont blame you for distancing yourself from your original comments.
Louis C.K. Why Don't Humans Murder More?
No joke, John Wayne Gacy was a clown at childrens parties when he was younger. My stepmother was also a clown at childrens parties and worked with him. She has an old picture of her and John Wayne Gacy all clowned up and smiling for the camera. It's the greatest picture I have ever seen.
John Wayne Gacy had 26 bodies in his tiny crawl space.

I don't even try anymore, I just grew to accept it and developed good disposal procedures.
