Fuck this shit, complete piggery. I have had nothing but bullshit from cops of late. I actually got a ticket for pedestrian in the roadway when i was dancing down an empty street at 3am, completely sober. What did this guy say besides "hey, you have no right to stop me. Show me the dog, make it sniff and detect drugs or bombs. I don't care if your balls are large or your penis is big." and for that, he gets tasered and beaten.

Oh, and on a late night/early morning noise thing. We had some neighbours across the street having a party so loud that at 3am in our bedroom it was like we were AT the party.

So my wife looked up the number for the local police station and called them in regards to the noise. The officer on the other end said "Why didn't you call 000?" (Our version of 911)... To which she said "Um, because that's for emergencies only" and he grumbled and moaned and bitched a whole lot before saying they would do anything... And I'm still not sure they did, the party may have stopped on its own.

My wife's sister works in the 000 call center here in Melbourne and so we hear the ridiculous things people call 000 about and what a waste of time it is (they HAVE to send an ambulance out no matter how puny the problem is, because if they don't and something did happen and that person died or became more sick they would be libel)... really, some people have no clue.

No she is a election official like many in this country whose number one concern is timely election results and not doing anything to deal with the impending disaster of long lines from lack of voting machines.

The request here was in case of machine breakdown to allow emergency paper ballots to be used. The tough old bird said that paper ballots can only be used if ALL the voting machines break. It may not be hard to explain the math, but if you have 5 machines and two break, you are in a world of hurt and probably results in four hour lines.

Why would she want to not allow paper? Well that means those paper need counted and in PA if no paper was used she could sit back on election night and plug a few hundred memory cards into their blackbox computer and out pops a magic number and they call it a night.

If paper ballots are used then she can't post the results by midnight and they have to scan ballots, but voters don't have to wait for three hours. You are exchanging an hour times a million voters. All that lost time in wages or society productivity of people standing in lines all around Philly, all in exchange for reporting the results a few hours earlier. That's how the system works. Instead of buying more machines or providing safety values for large turnout elections, they decide a long line is something they can live with.

It's the tradeoff of the corporate masters versus the worker bees. The 11 o'clock news comes first, because she is ok ignoring video footage of long lines. She isn't happy about news reports about why isn't the count done and 3am film crews camped outside her office. Her one job is to present the image of a smooth election once a year. They blame all other problems on voters or glitches.

So I take it you won't be buying 82 rolls of toilet paper in preparation for a storm that'll last 2 days and keep the stores closed for 3 at the most?

I wish I was in Houston just to see what it's like without anyone on on road. You can't even drive around town at 3am and get that effect.

She's solidly in line with John McCain's "Big Oil first" energy policy. She's pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won't be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species—she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.6
How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position.7

I think she's far too inexperienced to be in this position. I'm all for a woman in the White House, but not one who hasn't done anything to deserve it. In picking Sarah Palin, John McCain has made the religious right very happy. And he's made a very dangerous decision for our country.
