Turkey launching operations in Kurdistan against the PKK

Oct. 24 - Turkish troops operating on the Iraqi border are reported to have attacked Kurdish rebel positions inside northern Iraq.

Military sources say troops have ventured across the border for the first time since parliament voted to allow a large-scale offensive in Iraq. PKK separatists, operating from northern Iraq, killed a dozen Turkish soldiers in weekend fighting. Ankara says it is still hoping for a diplomatic solution to the crisis.
