The Prepared Piano

Composer John Cage popularized the concept of the 'prepared piano', which involves placing nuts, bolts, stoppers, pieces of paper and other items on or around the strings of a piano. Depending on where you place them, you can draw out various overtones and multiphonics, as well as create strange percussive sounds.
