The original animated short for this poetry reading, "Caldera," produced by Chris Perry and Evan Viera in cooperation with Chris Bishop, Marcus Wolf, and David A. Bishop is at once masterful and painfully poignant. Their goal was to raise awareness and further the global discourse with respect to understanding and dealing with mental illness. Though the poem "A Righteous Time to Rome" was written several years earlier in an attempt to shed light on the common thread unraveling nations throughout history, when I saw the prescription bottle in the young girl's hands, I just knew their wonderful animation could be reworked to investigate yet another devastating issue plaguing our timeāthe overmedication of the world's youth, specifically, and prescription drug addiction in general. These are not the only interpretations possible for this poem, of course. And I have plans for several alternative poetry reading videos for this particular work, to include one for its original meaning.
