Oh dear. Three Cups of Tea may be partially fraudulent

from Paul Constant's blog: Greg Mortenson's spiritual/current events memoir Three Cups of Tea has been a wildly popular book club book for years now. Last night on 60 Minutes, Jon Krakauer alleged that the book squarely belongs in James Frey territory. 60 Minutes says that Mortenson's claims that he was kidnapped by the Taliban are false. Worse, Krakauer says that Mortenson's nonprofit, which allegedly builds schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan, might be used primarily as Mortenson's "private ATM."

Krakauer does say that it's clear we're not talking about "Bernie Madoff," and that Mortenson has helped "thousands" of children in Afghanistan and Pakistan, but he suggests that Mortenson's "fraud" could "bring it all down."
