Largest non-nuclear explosion in history (for a while)

On April 5, 1958 an underwater mountain, Ripple Rock, was decapitated by the explosion of 1,375 tonnes of Nitramex 2H (an ammonium nitrate based explosive). The destruction of Ripple Rock was a brilliant bit of engineering that produced the world's largest non-nuclear explosion during peace times in history.
