Arrows A22 F1 car vs other track day cars at Circuit Zolder

Motorsport engineering company Rennwerk GMBH took an Arrows A22 Formula 1 car to an open track day at Circuit Zolder in Belgium. This provides a nice comparison between a vintage formula 1 car and the other track day sports cars you'd normally see at this track.

The Arrows A22 competed in the 2001 Formula One season, and I think this car was the one driven by Jos Verstappen. It was originally fitted with an Asiatech naturally aspirated V10 engine, with a little less power than the previous year's Supertec engine.

The best result for the year was Austria, and at that circuit in qualifying Michael Schumacher got pole with 1:09.562 and the Arrows of Enrique Bernoldi was 15th with 1:11.823. In other words, this car was 3% slower than the fastest F1 car in 2001, but still pretty quick compared to almost anything else :)

Model: Arrows A22
Production year: 2001
Driver: Arnold Wagner (GER)
Engine: Asiatech 3.0l V10
Chassis: A22 - 07
Track: Circuit Zolder
Date: 2012-08-16

Any idea who was driving the car on this occasion? Takes a strong stomach to race such a fast car against all those slowmobiles!

Ah, the good old years when the cars actually got faster every year.

Interesting to see it on slicks though. These cars in large part are closely engineered around the tires to the point where even switching to a different manufacturer of the same tire specification can totally wreck the handling.

Those don't even look like the same dimensions as the 2001 tires, but that's hard to tell from the video.

Yeah, what a glorious noise!

This isn't even bringing a gun to a knife fight, it's bringing a predator drone....

i had already forgotten how awesome the V10's sound versus the turbos from this year...

It doesn't say, but you can tell from the helmet that it's Arnold Wagner of Germany. The video is from 2012, and there are some other vids from around the same time.

Rennwerk GMBH use this car as a mule for their tyre temperature sensor testing, and have pictures of it all over their web site, and some other videos.

Both Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton broke the pole lap record for the Interlagos circuit of Brazil this year with the new hybrid engines. Previously held by the good man Rubens Barichello so I doubt that made them very popular with the locals! The race lap record is still held by Montoya.
