The 9 Wildest Things Fox News Said In 2012

quantumushroom says...

9) Bush would be blamed by the leftmedia for the exact same thing if he was President. Why not? He was blamed for 4 years of Obama failure!
8 ) Dr. Seuss was pretty upfront about The Lorax being propaganda.
7) Apparently a true story.
6) It's one guy's opinion on a discussion panel, and he's 100% correct about the State-run media taking Fluke's side without question.
5) As good a figure as any, when even the communist NYT claims in 2009 "U.S. Unemployment Rate Hits 10.2%, Highest in 26 Years" http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/07/business/economy/07jobs.html?_r=0 Plus it's common knowledge the government falsifies these numbers.
4) I don't care.
3) Odd. Usually the libmedia are chastising the military. But if the "64% increase" is true, tis true.
2) Geraldo is a liberal. As dumb as he is, at least he's allowed to be on FOX...there is no comparable 'token' in the libmedia.
1) Huckabee's doing his thing. So what?

When the left creates a SINGLE news outlet anywhere that doesn't work hand-in-glove for the taxocrat party, THEN they can compare biases. Until then, they're traitors to the American people who refused to vet King Obama and have never reported anything that put him in a negative light. They're no better than soviet-era State-run propagandists and come revolution, they are hopefully the first to go. Thank you and good night.

A Short History Of The GIF

Sagemind says...

Some very old (and stripped down) notes I have, from a beginners course I used to teach on web graphics and image formats. (it does loose a little something in translation with the limited formatting we can use here).

GIF: (Graphics Interchange Format)
Limited to 256 colors and less.
Recommended - 72 dpi.
8-bit color planes

Originally designed by Compuserve. June 1987

It used a compression scheme called LZW.
Gif utilizes a compression method which uses a particular algorithm. This algorithm is copyrighted by Unisys. Any software which supports the format must obtain the rights to use the format but all users are free to use it.
Because of this issue..., a new format called PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is slowly infiltrating, and is expected to eventually replace the GIF.

How it compresses...

  1. It compresses repeated patterns of pixels in an image.
  2. The more repeated patterns there are in an image, the more it can be compressed. When the image is decompressed it is
exactly the same as the original image.
  3. Example:

If the code looks like this - (@ 42-bytes)
    1 5 6 4 6 7 9 1 2 5 6 9 8 4 5 8 9 2 5 6 9 8 5 6 7 2 5 6 9 6 1 5 6 4 6 7 9 7 8 2 5 6

The conversion looks for repeating strings of more than 3 numbers -
    1 5 6 4 6 7 9 1 2 5 6 9 8 4 5 8 9 2 5 6 9 8 5 6 7 2 5 6 9 6 1 5 6 4 6 7 9 7 8 2 5 6

It then replaces the strings with a "token". It refers to which number it repeats and for how many characters -
    1 5 6 4 6 7 9 1 2 5 6 9 8 4 5 8 9 [9,5] 5 6 7 [9,4] 6 [1,7] 7 8 [9,3]

  4. Each "token" takes 2 bytes. having eliminated several repeating characters, our code is now only 31-bytes

Points to note:

  • GIF uses Lossless, Pattern Matching Compression
  • It compresses repeated patterns of pixels in an image.
  • The more repeated patterns there are in an image, the more it can be compressed.
  • When the image is decompressed it is exactly the same as the original image

Summary:
When you convert images to the GIF format you first must reduce the number of colors to 256 or less, (this process looses information). The fewer the colors, the smaller the file. But when the image is compressed, no image detail is lost.

Silence on the Power Point limitation? (Money Talk Post)

Shepppard says...

@bareboards2

Off hand, one of the things I can think of is the fact that since promoted videos are now reserved to 3 slots, not being able to frivolously promote every one of your videos would be a start.

I like the idea of "start everyone off at two", but I would like to point out that climbing the sift can be done in record time these days. Back in the day, the process of even being able to get a promote function could literally take a year. (Or, like, 3, in my case). Recently we've had a couple people get to that point within a few months. Now, good on them, they figured out that posting cat videos will get them published faster.

On the same token, you've said

"I've seen this before -- sifters who can't get a video into the Top 15 resenting the success of others. Instead of working on their skills to figure out what OTHER SIFTERS WANT,"

Now, I really dislike that statement. The reason i'm still at a gold star even though I've been around for 5 years is because I DON'T pander to what everybody else wants. I post the videos that I like, and that I think should be shown to the community. So, effectively what you've said is because I don't post a cat video every week, I'm less of an influence on the site because I'm still only at a star badge rather than a diamond.

I actually really like the fact that dag and lucky have tried this system out. I actually feel appreciated for the fact that I've stuck around the site for 5 years and I've tweaked the settings, setting up proper tags, etc. And not punished for only adding contributions I myself deem worthy.

That's not to say that there's no merit to the cat videos everyone posts now and again, but the fact that I choose not to play the system like that shouldn't be a detriment to me

President Obama: We Have Fewer Horses and Bayonets

You couldn't have possibly read my post and the spirit in which it was written and mistook me for someone who has a desire to place in office someone who would fiscally damage this country more than it already is. Or was that rhetorical question just designed to make a point? I want all the boats to rise, don't you?

>> ^Drachen_Jager:

I'm not 100% against businesspeople being involved in politics, but you have to understand where a Venture Capitalist like Romney comes from.
For example. Sealy used to be the biggest seller of mattresses in America by a wide margin. Huge, very successful company. Bain (under Romney) bought a controlling share and re-structured the company. They slashed the ad budget and dropped the quality so mattresses lasted only half as long. Profits shot up, and a few years later Bain flipped the company for a huge profit. But those profits were at the expense of customer loyalty Sealy quickly started to hemorrhage money, and competitors were quick to swoop in and take up the slack. Two weeks ago Sealy agreed to a buyout to avoid bankruptcy. It's estimated several thousand employees will be laid off in the process. They go from being a rock steady, solid-performing company, to ruin because of Bain's involvement.
Is that the kind of government you want?
>> ^silvercord:
It's also important to remember that neither broke businesses nor broke governments can take care of people.
I have run my own business off and on for thirty five years and can honestly say that I have never looked at it with the cynicism I see in the general population. I believe that if we take care of people, both our customers and employees, the dollars will take care of themselves. By the same token, I can't cripple the business by taking care of people or there won't be any business left to take care of people. That is what making a profit is all about; people get taken care of.
The same applies to government. The government which insists on not operating in the black will ultimately hurt the very people it desires to help. Our government simply must get back in the black. And when that tide comes in, all the boats rise. >> ^Drachen_Jager:
>> ^Mauru:
How do you call that: "Saved by the bell" For Romney?
To be fair, Obama was playing hugely on his experience there.
I am not a huge fan of Obama, but in this whole debate Romney came across as a bit of a clown. He obviously knows a lot about business stuff but his world-view really is quite skewered as many have suspected.

I think it's important to remember though, a businesses first concern is to make money first, take care of people second. A government's job is to take care of people first.
Hiring a venture capitalist to run a government is a little like hiring a butcher as a dog-walker because he 'knows about animals'.
