The Rise and Fall of BioShock
Bioshock & System Shock... damn they were great, pioneering FPARPG games. I imagine Bioshock should still stand up fairly well right now with its graphics. But SS2 sorely needs a remake, just like Half-Life to get me to play it again.
DOOM 2 made of CARDBOARD - Feat - John Romero
Next up, cardboard System Shock 2 because in that game the weapons really were made of cardboard.

The 7th Guest: Official Trailer
I liked the 2006 Prey, but it wasn't the best game ever (I actually have a boxed copy--remember those? ). Prey 2017 is said to be System Shock 3, I'm sure you know. It's not really in the Prey universe, but I guess they couldn't acquire the System Shock IP.
I only played the original Prey demo which was decent. System Shock 2 scared me.

Yeah. More than once I think. It was a long ass time ago, but I remember the end involves you leaving the mansion, amid happy-ish music and a bright sunny day, and being picked up by your driver who ends up being this undead skeleton dude or something.
The game I'm really enjoying right now is Prey (2017). OMG so good. I saw some let's plays of it and initially it felt underwhelming, but the game is so immersive and non-linear, with a great story and evolving game world... It's not so much a horror game, but it has tension and some jump-scares here and there. I feel like it's got some gameplay similarities to Alone in the Dark 1, oddly enough, despite being completely and entirely different.

Real Shodan: The real voice behind System Shock's Shodan.
Terri Brosius is the wife of Eric Brosius who did the music for System Shock 2 and the first three Thief games. She did voicework for both games (she was Shodan and I think Viktoria too). This clip is from a making of for the first Thief. 'Song of the Caverns' is a level in the first Thief and if I remember correctly one where you could get totally fucking lost.
Go play Thief everyone. It's terrifying.
um... ?

Classic DOS games roundup, circa 1995
Yeah, I've played games from Obsidian and InXile... I'm hoping the next Planescape game lives up to it's potential. Both Wasteland 2 and Pillars of Eternity were good but definitely not classics. Baldur's Gate 2 is still such a monolithic classic.
Otherside just announced System Shock 3 so that should be interesting, also the Ultima Underworld game sounds very exciting. It'd be cool if they could get the rights to Thief since no one has been able to come up with one as good as 1&2.
I have had the honor of working with some people from both BlackIsle and LookingGlass. You can find BlackIsle folk split between InXile and Obsidian Entertainment, and you can find a new LookingGlass-inspired studio (with a lot of the old crew) at Otherside Entertainment.
It's interesting to see how the right combination of people can produce such magic, because it's not like those developers have gone anywhere. But hopefully that's good news if you follow some developers for the sake of pedigree.

at one point, she looks kinda like SHODAN
....and if that doesn't scare you, go play system shock 2
Doom - Did You Know Gaming?
I couldn't get into the first System Shock game, but its sequel. OMG! "Look at you hacker..."
I just never got into Doom or Quake or any of the really early. The whole hell theme just never resonated with me.
I think System Shock was my first FPS, then later Half Life

No game has honestly frightened me since System Shock 2.

Brutal Doom Version 19 Trailer
I was a bit of a System Shock snob when Doom came out till I went to a friend of a friend and played Doom on his LAN.
I remember noticing a crevice on the map I could hide in that was adjacent to a hallway. Sure enough someone chased me as I was coming up on that hallway, hid.. other guy ran past and I got him in the back.
..Doom it was!
Zero Punctuation: System Shock 2
I played and finished System Shock 1. I can see that being very difficult to get into if you didn't play it when it first came out. It was one of the first full on 3D games, and that was the big appeal. The way they tie it into the second game is brilliant.
I remember scoffing at all my friends who were into Doom at the time (you can't even look up and down! pfft).. that is until I went over to one of their houses and played my first deathmatch over a LAN.
As for the level, (very very mild spoiler here) one of the decks on the ship is an entertainment / lounge deck. That's the one.
Dead Space is a pretty decent SS3 filler. I had a friend at EA who claimed the designers originally pitched it as a System Shock 3 (not in a literal sense).
