The Amazing Spider-Man - Trailer

MadSentinel says...

Regardless of whether the actual film sucks or not, this trailer has unforgivably bad music mixing going on. Zero punch whatsoever. The E.S. Posthumus mix from the original Sam Raimi film's first big trailer makes this sound like a kindergarten kazoopalooza.

Actually, the kindergarten kazoopalooza would have sounded better. It would at least have scored points for bravery.

And exactly who is supposed to fill the enormous galoshes left by J K Simmons as J Jonah Jameson? Probably a very hard-working, well-intentioned actor with no shortage of talent, but I feel for him, whoever he may be, without even having seen his face or heard his voice. Clearly the studio saw fit not to include him in this trailer.

I want to believe this won't be a bad film. It will be a very long time before a real-life President lives up to the fictional model created by Martin Sheen. I have zero beef with Denis Leary as Captain Stacey, nor with Rhys Ifans as Curt Connors, even as badly as I wanted to see Dylan Baker do it under Raimi's skilled hand. I want to give people a fair shot at doing good work. But the leadup to this film ain't making it easy.

[EDIT] -- Just to prove the point, it's a poor quality link, but THIS is how you mix a trailer:

I miss Sam Raimi mixing with Marvel, but I have reasonably high hopes for Joss Whedon.

Prediction for an outcome of the Occupy Movement (Worldaffairs Talk Post)

rougy says...

None of the above.

The #OWS must next evolve, and I think it will.

Go from an "occupy" movement to a "general strike" movement. If we can organize a few hundred people to meet at random and dance to a version of Michael Jackson's Thriller, then we can organize ourselves to make sure 100,000 people coincidentally "call in sick" when and where it is most strategic to our goals.

We can cause more damage to our enemies (I use that word specifically) by choosing not to participate in their exploitive system on a large scale basis. The ultimate goal is to be able to shut down this country at will, until the GOP starts sitting at the bargaining table.

The movement may ebb and flow...but I don't think it's going away.

Too many of us are hurting too badly to pretend all is well.

Austerity is not an option: tax the rich, end the wars, invest in America.

Above all, as Russell Simmons said, get money out of Washington.

Fox not happy about a non-white Spiderman

Sagemind says...

I have nothing against Black, yellow, green, blue or red super heroes - it's all the same to me. But why "Convert" already established characters? This totally kills off the entire stigma and mysticism which created them and made them famous. Peter Parker is a white male. lets deal with that.

Now, let's create some real Black (or other nationality) (Shi) super heroes. Albert Francis "Al" Simmons is black and what a great series that is/was. Why are the great and almighty comic Gods, DC & Marvel, so afraid of creating new super hero lines? Why do they just keep recycling the old ones? I've got nothing against bringing back old forgotten-about characters but why trash the already established?

Classic Coke anyone? Or was it better when they recycled it and changed the recipe?

Just finished the single player. Here are my pros and cons:

Pros:
- Some really head scratching puzzles.
- Very humorous, thanks to Merchant and Simmons. The last game that I played that was this funny was a Lucasarts adventure title more than 15 years ago.
- Some really nice additions to the mechanics of the game. I'm surprised that the floating energy spheres didn't make an appearance, as well as some of the other older mechanics, but then again, that let us focus on the new stuff to play with so fair enough.
-decent enough back story

Cons:
- the whole Potato game promotion/tie-in for all the reasons everyone's already complained about
- sad to see Valve is going the DLC route. On one hand I'm glad it's just cosmetic stuff and doesn't enhance the gameplay; on the other, what does this spell for future games like HL3 and L4D3? Fucking horse armor.
- I didn't care for the ending as much, but in keeping with making this thread spoiler-free, I won't go into it here. Maybe later, after everyone's gotten through it.
- by the end of the game, I was really surprised that Valve only did x amount of stuff with the new gameplay mechanics. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the community comes up with. However, I haven't heard whether or not an SDK will be released. I fear that Valve may follow suit with all the game companies and start holding back tools, just to nickel and dime with DLC. I certainly hope not.
