TRUE BLOOD Comic-Con Trailer

Inception Explained Via Folders

westy says...

>> ^SveNitoR:

I never understood why some people had problems understanding Inception. Still I agree that it is a clever way of showing how simple the structure of the plot is.

I think you have different groups of people not understanding it or uinderstanding it for different reasoins and then they all got mixed to gether and people started saying ITS A COMPLICATED FILM , when realy its not a complex film .

the film does suffer from terrible dialog and completely mashed up editing ( arguably the editing is to convey the nature of the dreams) the film also brakes the a rule it makes up and draws attention to ( the been knocked and woken up from a jolt)

Personally i don't think its a "bad" film i just didn't enjoy it at all , The main character played by Leonardo decapreo was a total selfish prick and i think with all the stuff about him and his wife and kids you are ment to identify and ruite for him in some way , but i thought he was a tosser so had no stake in what happend to him or his retarded love.

I can see how his romance and the story of him and his wife ties into the dreem aspect and the stuff of maby he is still in a dreem and she was trying to save him but i just didn't care.

Not that this film is like the matrix , but when u have a film thats premise is more philosophical or abstract than your standard film then you need strong characters and strong doilog to keep it interesting.

also to me all the special effects scenes felt realy canned/contrived and totaly broke the emersoin of the film for me. where as again in matrix 1 i didn't feal like i was watching a demo real for a car advertising company. ( again im not saying this film was like or shud have been like matrix 1)

The film is one big waisted potential if u took the inception idea had better plot and matue philosophical doilog it would have been way better.

im onyl bitter because i normaly like this sort of film , waking life ( i think thats its name) matrix , Existanze , cube .

come to think of it its like vanilla sky where it could have been good but was ruined by plot elements and annoying characters and bad script.

Glenn Beck reveals the NEW enemy: The cast of "Glee"

Yogi says...

Also I'd like to point out that I love Glee's performances and songs. But the writing is just shit. No sense of narrative no sense of holding anything back. Beck was onto something about instant gratification but in a different way. When you have characters they need to act someone like humans instead of Rachel just having like 3 different boyfriends in the FIRST FUCKING SEASON! What kinda story is that bullshit?

Ya know I compare it Buffy the Vampire Slayer...in the first episode of Season 2 there's a tender moment hinting at a budding romance between Willow and Xander. They did that a few times throughout the series but eventually stopped and they become probably the strongest friends of the group and with different separate people. It was an interesting story, that had tension and guessing and teasing in it.

In short Glee is written badly, and if Beck wants to take it down I say go for it. Two guys kissing on television ain't a big deal anymore anyways...Glee is better off dead.

Get married? Hells no, you're way too liberal.

In other news, I hadn't seen this till just now.

And no one cares!

I admit I like "Bad Romance"...song and vid.
But the original "born" sounds like bad madonna (ha). Weird Al deserves to mock better songs than this.

Faaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggg!!! Why don't we just get married ya Gaylord!!!

Atlas Shrugged Trailer (for real)

MaxWilder says...

Atlas Shrugged is a thoroughly enjoyable novel as long as you understand that it is a trashy romance novel for the extreme libertarian.

When you read it from that perspective it is a very interesting book. It also explains why some people are so frightened of socialism and communism (which they can't seem to distinguish). Perhaps those views aren't justified, but they're understandable to me because I read that book.

Just skip the huge speech, and try to forget the fact that the heroes are all strong beautiful geniuses. There is some inspiring stuff in there amidst the bullshit politi-fantasy.

The same thing goes for The Fountainhead. If I had read that in high school, I'd probably be an architect today.

Atlas Shrugged Trailer (for real)

dystopianfuturetoday says...

Agreed. I read the Fountainhead in my impressionable college years and thought it was the best thing ever. I read it twice and bought extra copies to give to people. Then I read Anthem and realized 2 things: 1) These books are shallow political manifestos (duh!) and 2) Ayn Rand is horrible at sci-fi. Then I started Atlas Shrugged, and it was the exact same book as the Fountainhead and Anthem, just with different characters.... then I got to the John Galt Speech, which is a needless reiteration of the politics of the Fountainhead, Anthem and all of the narrative in Atlas Shrugged leading up to the speech. It's also some of the most dead boring text ever committed to print. I think I got about 20 pages into the 60+ page speech when I decided: fuck this book and fuck Ayn Rand.

Set aside the goofball politics and Fountainhead is a decent trashy romance novel. Sadly, the greatest lesson I took from the Fountainhead is that indifference can be a powerful tool for manipulating people. Evil, but true. Yes, I was an asshole in my Ayn Rand phase, even more of an asshole than I am now.

Why do liberals hate Ayn Rand so much? I can't speak for all liberals, but for me, the fact that I was sucked into it - and felt actual euphoria as Ayn Rand's selfish darkness pulsed through my veins - gave me firsthand knowledge of how evil people are able to glorify themselves and justify their actions.

>> ^PHJF:

Well, this isn't Hollywood. It's a small-budget movie made by a "studio" formed FOR the movie.
And I don't see why Atlas Shrugged gets so much attention. Fountainhead is thematically very similar but a far better read (mostly because of the length).

Everything is a Remix Part 2

kronosposeidon says...

I know this comment is remix of commentaries from many individuals over the span of forever, but here goes anyway.

I'm not going to defend Hollywood's endless regurgitation of the same material. The dearth of original ideas in that town is appalling. However, if you read Joseph Campbell, other mythologists, and literary experts, you'll know that there are really only a limited number of original stories in the first place. Kirby Ferguson even mentions Campbell's The Hero with a Thousand Faces. One author whose name completely escapes me at the moment wrote that there are only about 60 stories - various tragedies, romances, heroic adventures, and even comedies have their roots in basic stories that have been told for millennia. Other experts will say there are fewer stories than that, others will say more, but you get my point. However, it's HOW those stories are retold is what makes them great, mediocre, shitty, etc.

Take the movie The Fighter. It's a classic story of an underdog beating the odds and achieving greatness. In this case it's a true story, but it's a classic. Just ask Rocky. However what made The Fighter great was in the details, especially the acting. Melissa Leo, Amy Adams, and Christian Bale all turned in great performances.

Also George Lucas did take a LOT from other films, but he made the material his own and succeeded wildly with Star Wars. (Then 20 years later he took all that greatness and took a huge fucking dump on it, almost souring me on my love of the originals.)

So I don't mind stories being retold, as long as the filmmakers can make them their own, keep them interesting, and stock them with good actors (not necessarily famous actors, but good actors). I hope Kirby Ferguson touches on this in the third part.

I hated every movie this guy has made, but people can change. So I have, and now I like him for his humility and sense of humor in such difficult times. I hope he beats it!

I'm not a huge fan of most of his movies, but I do appreciate "Romancing the Stone", "Falling Down", and "Traffic".

Yeah, Falling Down was brilliant, and I don't say that about a lot of films. Also, don't forget some of his other gems: The Game, War of the Roses, Black Rain. Come on!
