The Fastest Tractor

oritteropo says...

Yeah, it didn't seem that fast overall when normal John Deer tractors go 100 on the highway, and this was only 130.

I think they've missed something about the record... Fastest Finnish made tractor driven by an ex rally driver on snow??? The linked article doesn't help at all, it's only more marketing.

The comments unkindly suggested that the broken driveshaft is normal for these machines

Pretty good, and a good advancement in snow tires, but I'm sorry, this is no where NEAR the "fastest speed ever recorded for tractors" as they imply, maybe the 'fastest speed for unmodified (except for software, which is everything on new computer controlled motors) commercially available tractors on commercially available unmodified tires on ice'....
...because even lawn tractors have gone WAY faster, over 130MPH....

And according to Wikipedia, drag-pulling tractors theoretically reach over 200kph in short distances all the time.

Sébastien Loeb's Record Setting Pikes Peak Run 2013

oritteropo says...

In both cases the car is a monster Peugeot driven by a top rally driver, and each film has its own merits. What you can't compare is the times, 8m13.878s on bitumen vs 10m47.77 on dirt/gravel... except to say that each was really quick It certainly looked faster 25 years ago!

Vatanen has some interesting things to say about the earlier car, here - http://www.arivatanenrally.com/en/cars/peugeot-405-t16-pikes-peak.html

I'm sorry, this cannot be compared to Vatanen's run. You can't equate paved and gravel. Besides... ONLY 2 minutes quicker?

Holy shit @3:43, haven't seen that one yet. Out of curiosity, what the hell is wrong with people who crowd around the actual track? You'd have to be crazy to be a rally driver, but you'd have to be INSANE to be a spectator at such a close proximity. I'm specifically talking about the crowd at 0:50.
Crouds like that don't exist any more in rallies. Since the accidents in the '80s standing near the road is illegal and marshals usually make sure the rule is enforced.
I've heard a rally driver from the '80s say in an interview that the only way he could drive with all the human walls was to imagine they are actual concrete walls. The only problem was that hitting such a wall made shit very real, very fast.

Whatever website is hosting this video, they never load for me.

Same problem here when I try to watch it on Firefox. I switch over to Opera or Chrome for Break videos, and then they work fine. I believe it's the pre-roll commercial that fucks things up on Firefox, for whatever reason. I guess.
