Straight is the new gay - Steve Hughes
I could use the same argument to try to outlaw cars.
When someone complains about smokers outdoors, I ask them if they drove there to complain, then offer a deal. They sit in their car with the exhaust plumbed into the window, I'll sit in a box smoking a fat cigar, last one breathing wins the debate.
Oddly, no one ever takes me up on that, but at least they all sheepishly drop their complaints.
As to banning it in private homes, this is a terribly slippery slope that gives power to others to decide what's dangerous to you....now consider getting too little sleep has proven to be harmful, so why not a legally enforced bed time based on the youngest or oldest person on your block? Your second hand noise might keep them up, harming them, so night night time is now 6pm. Consider all the food issues you mentioned as second hand groceries, because children have little option but to eat what parents supply, so no more sugar, salt, or processed foods in the stores because they might buy them.
The questions about health and safety vs freedom to be unhealthy are not simple ones to resolve, and it's impossible to fully safeguard both.

Tabs v(ersu)s Spaces from Silicon Valley S3E6
I thought it was pretty clear in the show that he knew she was using spaces instead of tabs because of the sound of her repeatedly hitting the spacebar at the beginning of each line (which depending in your editor/IDE might be done automatically).
They are in a small environment, (loosely?) collaborating on code. He's anal about tabs vs spaces, and can tell that she's using the "wrong" one because of the repetitive (and annoying from his perspective) sound.
Put programmers together in a confined space, and they'll grate on each other over style issues / noise levels / music / whatever. I find the show extremely accurate in portraying the general atmosphere or feel of software development, if occasionally accenting or misportraying some details in the interest of making it good TV.
The film, however, makes no sense, because the only way you can find out about a fundamental disagreement on spaces v tabs is by opening someone else's file in your editor, and finding the indentation all messed up. It's not something you can tell by looking over a shoulder.
Ad Attacking Comey Before He Testifies
This is just political noise. I just don't see a reason for this.
Comey is not running for office. He is not endorsing anyone.
Why should someone put $ into this ad? There is no point in it.
So greatamericaalliance just made it for fun?
What do you mean?
Unboxing The $3000 Bluetooth Speaker
the freq. range of bluetooth is the freq. range it can transmit/receive, so it affects audio. the encoding and decoding seems to be more problematic these days as it introduces noise, artifacting, and distortion. different bluetooth codecs have different freq. range characteristics.
I know very little about this but logic has me thinking the frequency range of blue tooth has nothing to do with the frequency range of the final sound produced as it's just transmitting a digital signal.
amiright?
I would not want to be the neighbor but how cool is this
Don't know when this was filmed. If it was recent, the comment above about noise ordinances not kicking in until sundown doesn't mean what it means in the (much) lower 48. I'm south of them, still in the State of Washington but I can see Canada across Admiralty Inlet. And this looks like after 9:30 or even later.
Canada. Way high up on the globe.
Bear Problem Solved
"Being woken up in the middle of the night by insane clown noises" problem on the rise.
Mountain Lions Sound -- Way Cuter Than You’d Expect
It probably was. If they make any noise around humans at all, it's the warning growl that you'd expect. Unless you're intruding on their territory or threatening their young, they will slink off soundlessly if you come near.
and now all the hikes I've done have just become nightmares because I've heard that noise near me and thought it was a damn bird....
FU mother nature... FU

Transformers: The Last Knight – Trailer (2017)
Sorry @ant, please don't take this personally.
Fuck you, Michael Bay. You're an awful filmmaker and you haven't managed to elicit 0.01% of the emotion I felt watching the animated Transformers movie as a kid and while that was basically just an extended toy commercial, at least it had... Christ, I dunno... balls? A sense of fun? A stupidly awesome 80s soundtrack?("Dare" is still on my running playlist and it brings a smile to my face every goddamn time)
Eh, screw this noise, I'm off to watch the Thor trailer again.
Tl;dr: there isn't enough alcohol on the planet to make me enjoy this abomination.
Late Show Wins The 'Hi Stranger' Challenge
I'm struggling to find the right letters to accurately express the noise I made when I saw this....
I'm thinking "gerrhhhhaaauuughhhhhhuch", but that doesn't have quite the requisite mix of horror, revulsion and nausea.
What do tree rings sound like when played like a record?
I feel like the title is kinda misleading. If you actually played trunk rings on a record you get white noise.
What's happening here is very different.
Still cool, but not the same at all.
Rex Murphy | Free speech on campus
Obviously didn't look very far, I've been very supportive of minority rights in general. I just don't think much of people shutting down debates with white noise (or the lickspittles that support them).
So don't engage then, I'm not twisting your arm. /grin
No assumption made. I looked at your past comments.
But, this comment only solidifies why there is no point in engaging with you.

Oh, you weren't talking to me? Sorry cupcake, you put it out there on the internet, and despite Sift being leftward leaning, I don't recall seeing signs that this was a safe space where only your opinion was allowed to be ventured and no one was allowed to respond.
Typical SJW. If I'm not with you, "Shut up. SHUT UP!!! KEEP YOUR HATE SPEECH OFF MAH FORUMS!!!!" /eyeroll
I would have given you a more thorough and reasoned reply, but let's face it, it wouldn't make a dent on the white noise of your position. You've made your assumptions about me clear as day and nothing I say will change that, so why bother?
In which case, all I have to say is: Have a cup of concrete and harden the fuck up princess.
I wasn't talking to you and I was offering someone who seemed genuinely interested in the other side some view of that side. I'm not interested in the vitriol from some rando on the internet who has made being "anti-sjw/anti-feminist" an identity.
This musical illusion will blow your mind!
Before he gave the secret, I went back and got it the second time. Mind blowing? Eh.
It's similar to when you listen to so-called EVP (electric voice phenomenon, or ghost whispers). You hear it the first time, and you're like... "so what? That was some random noise." Then someone tells you what you're supposed to hear (listen it's saying "Get out now!" wooo creepy!), and after that you can't NOT hear that.
