You know who else is overweight? The black man in this video and 55% of Americans!

We could apply violent pig to anyone... Like to all the common thugs on the street, just like all the people in America... Of course, then who could we blame for brutality? Not the everyday man because that would take introspection as to why society as a whole fails...

Remember, all cops come from flesh and blood and some are stupid. What would have been the appropriate course though? Go after him? (Answer, no.) Wait him out (Possibly, but figure he can wait up to about two days... ) Tase him? (Answer, depends if you think you can safely take him down. Considering everyone thinks they are more capable than they truly are, these cops prolly did too.)

Also, if there is a suspected gun, the cops who want to return home disable as soon as possible. The cops that want to test their speed and accuracy wait until they are dead. When they hit him with the first taser, what was behind him? If it was land, they needed to try and tase him right then and there (While he was seated. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a moron... It was BECAUSE he was SEATED that the opportunity was right. Of course the view is bloacked...) If the first deployment would have succeeded, the man who threatened to take life would have been fine. You say lethal force wasn’t warranted and you are correct, but the taser is only a potentially lethal weapon. Just like the hands and feet are a potential lethal weapon… A gun on the other hand, if used correctly will nearly always be lethal (Cause death or great bodily harm...)

If I was in that situation, and I was law enforcement (which I am not,) here is a potential scenario:

Fat man on bridge threatens to off himself. May be packing due to his 50 page history, reports from family AND state of agitation (So, first thing I know is that he may murder himself and any "Pig headed mother-fing cops"--as come others call all cops here on this site.) We respond, try to wait him out. Looks bad, because he is saying f-you, I will do it. We wait till he sits, there is ground behind him (Cannot see from this camera footage,) and then deploy the less-than-lethal taser... It fails. He gets up, makes a dash for the security of the bridge but also a better drop point. Take him down or let him fall? Hrm, hard to say because now he knows what will happen to him if he stops and therefore, he prolly won't stop... Taser deployed... And he falls. Slightly better outcome than if he had done a head-first dive of his own accord, which is of course what he promised to do... But bad outcome anyways…

The CBC had a panel of experts look at her MRIs and, knowing the type of tumour (which was non cancerous by the way, "tumour", sounds bad but it's not always a dire situation) they concluded that the worst possible outcome for her waiting the five months is that she MIGHT begin to lose a little of her vision as the tumour pressed up against her optic nerve. But as soon as she received the surgery her vision would return to normal within days.

On the other hand my dad had some heart problems show up in his annual physical, his doctor referred him to a specialist, they installed a heart monitor which he wore for 24 hours. He was out of the hospital with a new pacemaker before his doctor even got the results of the specialist's tests. The system does work, especially for life threatening cases. It's only in cases where delay of treatment does not threaten life or long term disability that the system moves slowly.

and one i feel i can discuss things with that others may either take offense or become indignant.
thats why i wrote you.not to be inflammatory but to suggest your over-simplification of buddhism/christianity may not be close to a reality but rather closer to the western worlds abridged and condensed version.
western philosophy/theosophy could not exist without eastern philosophy/theosophy, not the other way around.

i pointed out that many in the western world take a myopic stance,not intentionally i would presume but rather one set by culture.i was not implying that you are myopic but that you were espousing certain well-grooved tracks used by many concerning buddhism.soundbytes usually perpetrated by the church itself and then parroted.

it is interesting to note that even teillhard de chardin remarked on the similarities of christs teachings and buddha.this was rejected by the church but i tend to agree with chardin.

while i agree that text is not a suitable and contextual medium to express such dynamic concepts and philosophies let me make a few observations and you tell me what you think.
1.you stated that buddhism does not recognize the "changing soul".this is an incorrect statement due to the fact that just about every precept of buddhism stems from ones journey and the self realization that one must change,grow to move on to a greater consciousness.
the primary vehicle for this is forgiveness,but while in buddhism this is a starting point and eventually should lead to an awareness where forgiveness is moot due to the fact that your choices will no longer need to be forgiven,christianity tends to view forgiveness in the latter stages of awareness.
which one is correct?that is for you to decide.
2.you stated that KARMA is not a vehicle of divine salvation,but that is a misnomer,it is very much a vehicle of divine salvation due to the fact that buddhist view all life as divine.while christianity views humans as dirt,sinful and unclean and the only path to salvation is through jesus christ.this is a very complex paradigm and i do not do this subject justice but that can wait for another conversation.while the concept in itself is simple,to express it in all its simplicity takes volumes.(just look at all the writings on this subject,many many perspectives).

these are only a few points.points i make to show that coming from a christian perspective may color the beauty and depth of buddhism.i do not feel you are a fundamentalist and that is a good thing because the teachings of jesus are beautiful as they are succinct but if viewed only from the eyes of the church i have always felt the meat of jeus christ's teachings have gone either misinterpreted or outright twisted.then again,i view religion with a suspicious eye and read the teachings from a different vantage point.
does this mean i am right and my views infallible?
no..that would arrogant.
but it does mean i have the ability to glean understanding that is not tainted by the church because i view the teachings from a different angle.
studying cultural religious history has given me context to better understand those teachings.
that has been a work in progress for 25 years and im still going,still learning and still fascinated by it all.
