Wingsuiters Chase Skiiers Down a Mountain, One Almost Dies

shveddy says...

Wingsuits have already been landed twice without a parachute: once into a giant pile of boxes and another French guy fell into some trees when he stalled out above a forest. Jeb Corliss skipped off a boulder and only broke his legs, which is close enough. However 76 people died - those are pretty shitty odds.

So I stand by the notion that he was pretty darn close to dying - one might say that he was almost there.

But, if you guys really want to be the semantics police, here are some more illicit video titles for you guys to fix:

I agree that it's only a matter of time before someone survives another crash, particularly if it is into snow, but first keep in mind that those guys are in a dive and flying closer to 130-140mph and they are also flying head first. Taking a hit in that position would hardly ever be survivable.

Dog Extra Excited To Start A Sled Race

arghness says...

I've only been dog sledding once (in Norway), and the dogs were all incredibly excited to run. They were fairly patient until I put them in their harnesses and then they were pulling as hard as they can, despite the brake being on the sled!

They're so cute when they get to stop for a rest as well, and just dive head first in to the nearest snow bank to cool down / drink.

186 mph motorcycle gets passed by a station wagon (Audi)

chingalera says...

Jesus Christ and the gun-bashing bandwagon is leaving the station. My ramblings lost in the ether regardless of facts or fucking figures (death stats by firearms or violence), become mute when you consider that more Germans die of complications from their annual Bratwurst intake than from violent crimes. MY POINT was to pooh-pooh quadrophonic who turned the thread in the direction it went with a simple comment.

Then comes the bandwagon, which I attempted to derail, and now everyone wants to jump in and whine about their take on issues surrounding firearms in the United States, like they are some fucking problem. The problems' with criminals being created by a broken criminal justice system, the fear mongering fomented by news organizations and the cunts proposing legislation whenever some imbecile snaps, and the lackeys that feed on their output like pablum.

All stats, all anger directed at senseless crimes committed by the uncommitted with guns (mass shootings), and all dumb assess who feed on news organization's and their editorializing on sensible laws for guns (that we don't already have) in order to justify more laws become IRRELEVANT when you consider, that by design disarming partially or completely the average citizen is the goal of any fascist.

Most of you who UP-voted ASMO's comment without this explained context or with it, are pretty much the lay-down-and-fuck-me types who, should some fascist regime pop-in and tell them what and how to do things now, would enthusiastically succumb, especially if the offer were candy-coated and the statistics looked good, and you could keep things like groceries and your fucking car.
(and yeah, I up'ed quad's comment...I love to jump head-first into threads hi-jacked by passionate fools)

Or, you simply live in another paradigm (being in a country who has not systematically programmed their inhabitants with violence, fear, and race-tensions) and have no reference for the consternation of a sane, reasonable person surrounded by minions of dutiful robots.

You are bang on my friend. They have never been and will never be interested in the welfare of the plebs. This has been building for decades and now we are truly seeing the inherent greed and evil that comes corrupt capitalism.

I do not know as much as you do about how things work and the structures of the economy etc. but my eye is on the ball and all I can think of doing now is to highlight this shit as much as possible to people, not because I think it will change much at this point, but because people need to have a heads up before they ultimately end up head first in shit. This country is terribly fucked and it won't be long at all before everyone is deeply affected.

Thanks so much for keeping me in the loop with these things. I'm loving your work

It's not like they had a lot of shame to begin with, but recently...

You mentioned the rather scandalous jumper remark. Between this and the food packages distributed by the Red Cross and the electricity/heating issue and the NHS/Lewisham proceedings and the privatisation of the Royal Mail for a pittance and the housing situation in the greater London area, I'm rather surprised you haven't paraded Dave's head around on a pike just yet.

Today's Guardian had a few pieces about cold food, damp homes, freezing pensioners and overcrowded food banks -- it was as depressing as it was infuriating.

The establisment has always been out of sync with what most people perceive to be reality, but Dave and his buddies seem to have cut all ties to the rest of the country.

Unexpected Trail Turn Causes Multiple Bike Pileup

Snohw says...

I don't ride trails, but would love to one day. So I still just can't understand why bikers would not take the two cautions following;
1. Recon. Just know the map. I mean, no F1 driver (I can't say Nascar that's just a loop) or any kind of rally/track driver would just drive head-first on a track he doesn't know anything about.

2. Why ride 7-10 feet after eachother? It's not a race, seems dangerous if one guy falls and you have little time to break.
Only reason I see is that the riders after can see what the guy infront does and take notes/lesson, but that seems flawed because this second guy obviously just flew over as well, so that doesn't seem to work anyway.

This trail doesn't appear to lend itself to a slow pre-ride. More technical trails tend to only be ridable at speed. Our joke is usually that if you fall, you weren't riding fast enough. Speed is your friend, especially with a lot of those drops.

If you weren't going fast enough, you'd have to stop of risk serious injury over nothing. Then, that guy riding behind you at speed who knows the trail finally caught up to you and wham. Now both of you are injured.

Again, signage is amazing for avoiding stupid things like this.

Although, I admit, I'd be laughing my ass off if this happened in one of my groups. Although, as the ride leader, I'd be the first one over those bushes lol But then again, I also read up on new trails before we go for a ride . . . assuming we didn't find out about the trail right before we got there.

St. Bernard Too Scared to Climb down the Stairs

Fletch says...

Maybe he just doesn't like basements. Or he doesn't understand Polish.

As @NaMeCaF said, that looks more laddery than stairy, and a big dog like that would really have to commit to go down that thing head first. Maybe if the bald guy showed the dog how "easy" it was by getting on all fours and doing it first...

High Bar Base Jump Goes Terribly Wrong

silvercord says...

BASE jumper Richard Henriksen was performing the stunt for a TV show on the NRK TV network in Norway.

Video footage of the accident shows Henriksen making his first rotation around the metal bar when it suddenly collapses.

The father-of-five then flies off the cliff head-first, and those watching can be heard letting out a huge gasp.

In an extremely lucky chain of events, Henriksen survived the 1200m fall. He narrowly missed falling against the rock face of the cliff and managed to open his parachute on the way down, NRK TV reports.

Skateboarding Fails at 1,000 FPS

zeoverlord says...

They also seem to need a braking system that brakes the board ever so slightly whenever a sudden asymmetric shock is applied to the weels, it would have prevented a few of these, of cause that would also have caused a lot more fails, but at least those would be head first which makes it much more interesting to watch.
>> ^sirex:

lesson learnt from this video: skateboards need slightly flared / squared side edges.

LarsaruS says...

I am just wondering what video some of you guys are watching as you say he is slammed head first? He isn't. Look at the video around 23-24 seconds in. He slams him on his side and if you look closely his head is on or above Casey's foot and never hits the ground as far as I can tell...
