On the other hand if in the 1 in a million chance it works and works well then that would be really cooly.

Because he's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight.

Bah! Why did Gary Oldman stop playing bad guys?!? His performance in Léon, The fifth element and True Romance were some of the best bad guys evar.

The Dark Knight vs Blade Trailer

IronDwarf says...

That's a great trailer. This general idea would actually make a kickass sequel to The Dark Knight: a ninja vigilante who tries to take the place of the dishonored Batman, but goes around killing criminals instead of enforcing justice. Batman has to step up again and take him down and it turns into an all out war between them. In the end, Batman ends up redeeming himself in the eyes of Gotham.

Short Dark Knight Clip - Joker Crashes the Party

"I was once a prosecutor. I am now a Senator. But I have always been a fan of movies. My cameo in the latest Batman movie, The Dark Knight, was priceless to me, but we can put real numbers on the value of that production to the economy. The Dark Knight shot for 65 days in Chicago, pouring almost $36 million into the local economy. Seventeen million dollars went to nearly 800 local vendors that were critical to the production of the movie. For example, one local lumber supplier employing 40 people played a central role in the set construction that helped transform Chicago into the mythical “Gotham City.” In order to fulfill the production needs of the film, the lumber company worked closely with 15 other Illinois-based companies. Those 15 suppliers employed an additional 350 workers." from http://leahy.senate.gov/press/200807/072408a.html ...

Dark Knight: Load of Tripe (Cinema Talk Post)

It seems like the fans (10 stars voters) are trying to claim the no. 1 position, just like during the Lord of the Rings, but in the end this flick will go down in ranking with the Godfather and the like reigning again.

I voted 6 stars, as this movie will not be etched in people's minds - only when you haven't seen anything better..
Maybe the face and acting of The Joker will survive but this roller coaster ride through an exploding bombastic (visual and auditive) dark Gotham without any real suspense arcs is out of balance..as part of the Batman series it may be seen as a terror chapter but I expect an entertaining movie (especially in a story about heroes/villains) to have a full story told where I also - to some degree - have some compassion with the (extremely terrorized/scared) characters and objects/surroundings. Nolan did not succeed in this.

Watchmen Trailer

budzos says...

I too wish they never tried. I resent the fact that the general public is going to feel they "get" something relatively obscure, for which I took the time and effort to become intimately acquainted back when I was a teenager. It's like they're invading my happy little culture niche. Although I anticipate it will remove a small part of the stigma from being a comic book fan.

I recently re-read the Watchmen and it was probably the best lazy Sunday in years.

One thing that's pretty cool is they're going to release a companion DVD a-la Animatrix and Batman: Gotham Knight, which'll have the pirate comic in animated form, or told with live action stylized to a more antiquated comic book look than the movie proper.

I have my ticket for a VIP adults-only screening of Dark Knight at noon tomorrow. They have big huge leather seats in the VIP, which combined with the no kids thing makes it worth an extra $4 to me. Oh and the best part is reserved seating, so you don't need to line up like a schmuck for hours beforehand in order to get a good seat.

Yeah, both, but not by choice! I was rooting for HD-DVD in a big, big way! Not only because I programmed a couple of the WB HD-DVD titles, but because I couldn't imagine why studios would want another studio's parent (Sony owns Sony Pictures, obviously) to win the format wars. I just assumed they'd all go against Sony, but I was wrong.

In any event, I started programming HD-DVDs before market release, and I marveled at how terribly unreliable the players were - still, I bought one two months before WB decided to stop producing HD-DVD releases, which was pretty much the death of HD-DVD, fyi. The player is slow to boot and is unresponsive. It sucks. Recently, I switched to Bluray, though I refused to buy a standalone player. Instead, I bought the PS3! It rocks! Super fast boot time and super responsive! Plus, it has ethernet connection for those necessary firmware updates that you just don't get with most standalone Bluray players (though they did seem to come standard from most HD-DVD players).

As for HD-DVDs verus Bluray discs in my library? Well, the next time I go to Best Buy and purchase Batman Begins and Batman Gotham Knight I think I'll have exactly the same in HD-DVDs and Blurays, just like youdiejoe. Then again, I'm too lazy to get off my couch and go count the titles.

Third Batman Trailer - The Dark Knight

"Batman Begins" - The Will To Act / Mind Your Surroundings

budzos says...

I think this is the best existing Batman movie but they still screwed up quite a few things about the mythos. Mainly having Batman's identity being known to so many people, and Batman having so much assistance. Also the fact that they made it Gotham seem to revolve around Bruce Wayne... riding the Wayne monorail to Wayne towers, Raas Al Ghul burns down Wayne Manor, etc..
