Bill Nye Explaining Science on Fox is "Confusing Viewers"

BicycleRepairMan says...

The point about global warming is that all the available evidence shows that:
1. It is happening
2. It is man-made.

Why is that a problem? well, because we dont know what the consequences could be, we dont know how to stop the rising temperature or if theres a limit or if or when we can reverse the trend.

All of the above could happen, or it might not, some of it may not be due to GW and some of it may be. The fact is that we are messing with earths ecosystem, which is the very reason we are here in the first place. We grew up and evolved as a species on this planet, under these conditions, how will a rapid(geologically rapid 100-200 years) change in climate affect us as a species? how will it affect millions of other species? How will it affect weather? viruses? diseases? deserts? forests?

We don't know

Thats the point. some of the above are possible consequences of global warming*.

*or some denialist pulled it out of their ass and put it on the web so that other denialists could impress us all with their extensive lists.

Ron Paul: Drug war killed more people than drugs

longde says...

Living in China for a year reaffirmed to me the need for an FDA. The unscrupulous business people here, to cut corners, will put all sorts of dangerous chemicals in processed food to cut corners on cost. It's gotten to the point where everyone questions every item on the shelf, and there is a general feeling of insecurity about the immediate and long term effects of consuming bad food.

Thank god for the FDA. They may be a little corrupt, and I don't doubt that they may over extent, but giving capitalists free rein to put paint thinner in my frosted flakes to make them look "frostier" is not cool.

Glass staircase not dress friendly (men don't agree)

She's got every right to complain.

I agree but I think she's got an attitude problem. She's a judge and this is her courthouse; you're telling me she doesn't have enough pull to have the stairs modified? For $50 plus a few hours labor this whole thing is fixed. Instead she gets CNN on the case. Sounds like she's more interesting in making an ordeal than solving the problem; excellent qualities for a judge, I might add.

She's got an attitude problem? She quotes the pushback she's gotten from talking to whoever is in charge of the building. "That they hope people will be mature? Um, that's not a solution." The attitude problem is from whoever won't spend the few hundred bucks to get the glass frosted.

Also, there is another set of stairs below, so you can't wall it off with plants. The plants would cost more than frosting the glass anyway.

To everybody who says this is a dumb story, I agree. Why isn't the building manager getting it fixed immediately? That may be a better story. Fucking government bureaucracy.

westy says...

what a stupid bitch .

1)unlikely stairs were designed to perv on women more just so they are light (visualy)

2) who gives a fuck juses Christ at best you would see a vagina most probably knickers obvously if sumone was filming with the intention of perving on people you would just ask them to leve the building.

3) If you use the building and its really an issue for you just get them to apply frosted tape to the glass parts problem solved , its not evan an issue I mean what a joke.

4) its only a problem if u worked there had a issue with it and they refused to compamise and put tape on it. evan then its small fish compared to the other retardation going on in courts and the legal system.

President Obama's Statement on Osama bin Laden's Death

Deano says...

>> ^chipunderwood:

Nothing in this world happens without planning and manipulation-Not even accidents.
Bhutto was assassinated in December of 2007 after a political rally in Pakistan two months prior, having been interviewed by Frost(?) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnychOXj9T
gone of the reasons MAY HAVE BEEN for her comments in that interview. The one where she talked about Bin Laden being dead.

I can't really work out what your overall points are but re Bhutto applying some critical reasoning might have helped.

I think any reasonably intelligent person, whatever their motivations, would realise she made a mistake in that interview and presumably Frost (I don't recall seeing the original interview back then), dopey as he is, failed to clarify that in fact she meant to say *Daniel Pearl* was "murdered". Most people would not describe Bin Laden as having been "murdered."
She subsequently spoke in other interviews about Bin Laden being alive.

President Obama's Statement on Osama bin Laden's Death

chipunderwood says...

Would anyone like to point out during this comment-fest, another possible scenario? May I?

Osama Bin Laden, alleged "mastermind" of the 9/11 attacks, who also received training from the CIA (documented) and considered an "asset" by the same, may have been dead already. One thing any intelligent person should remember and that EVERY intelligence operative knows, is that complete control of information dissemination leaves a huge amount of room for a wagon-load of cut-rate propaganda.

Nothing in this world happens without planning and manipulation-Not even accidents.

Bhutto was assassinated in December of 2007 after a political rally in Pakistan two months prior, having been interviewed by Frost(?) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnychOXj9T

The fact of the fact of the fact of the matter is that NO ONE HERE has the information to make an intelligent observation with a view to editorializing. We simply DO NOT and will never have all the facts.

One thing is certain-Some born-into-wealth and prominence, CIA-groomed operative and possible patsy was blamed for the 9/11 attacks.

I'm not one of these "truthers", like so many of you "believe what I hear on the newsers" are so quickly to label anyone who doesn't believe bullshit when they are fed it, I am simply a man with a mind that is capable of sifting through the barrage of information available to all of us and use my limited capacity for critical reasoning to filter out the bullshit from the maybes.

You can't know-the truth unfortunately, is classified and sealed until the death of everyone;)

Unreal Engine 3: "Under The Hood" technology trailer

westy says...

>> ^spoco2:

It's videos like this that make you wonder why you'd ever write your own engine... but then I guess that's kind of the point of the video.

to negate the 200,000k licensing fee also its still the case that unreal teck can be a pain to work with, with core updates braking old code. I also dont think its grate for a whole company to be hostage to another developer that has no investment in them .

I think having your own engine as a company is/can be a really sweet place to be but obviously depends on your resources and types of games you make . I think that adopting an existing engine that has core elements you need for the games you make and then gradually changing it into your own engine is the best lest risky route.

I find that devs that just use the core tool set and don't change an engine end up with games that often feal and look very similar , there were a whole dirth of Unreal engin and Q3 games that feal like mods rather than indavidual games.

What is really nice though is that Frost bite engine really provides the full package , amazing net code very good optimization cross platform , and fantastic graphics in my opinoin interms of Function and game play frost bite is far more Superior to unreal teck , sure unreal by default definitely looks better and can graphicly do more but thats not realy the main piont of games and you can artisticly fudge / hide allot of the stuff shown in these demo vids.
