The Most Astounding Fact (Neil DeGrasse Tyson)

ChaosEngine says...

>> ^Fletch:

Everything NDT says sounds like the most astounding fact he's ever heard, and that you should be astounded by it too. His meter - every enunciation, accentuation, and pause - sounds affected and I, for some reason, can't stand to listen to him. I've tried. He talks about things I'm interested in and I enjoy reading what he has written (I have "Pluto Files" and "Space Chronicles" on my Kindle), but when he starts talking, it just sounds like he's talking to five year-olds to me.
F ck it, upvote.

Maybe it's an act, but I genuinely believe he just really loves what he does. To me, that is fantastic to hear.

>> ^belanos: Amazing, except for one thing, the girl needs to enunciate! 10 years old, singing phonetically in a second language. I'd say she's doing pretty well.

After speaking with her, her reply is that she has been in speech therapy all her life.
She does have the deaf kind of speech more so in person than you can tell on the video

That is awesome. Makes me very happy to see this.
Question - why can she speak clearly, when most people I know of who are born without hearing do not develop enunciation and spoken language without a lisp?
Either way, that video made my day. Nothing is better than seeing a person who is in love with life itself. Nothing makes you appreciate that more than a handicap (and having it returned to you in some way).

Marc Martel (Sombody to Love guy) does Bohemian Rhapsody

Shepppard says...

I'll give him credit for somebody to love, but this wasn't even close.

The quartet was completely off, and for fucks sake, FREDDIE DIDN'T ENUNCIATE!

In terms of a cover, this was decent. In terms of the second coming of Freddie Mercury, nah, not even close.

Maybe it's just because Bohemian Rhapsody is my favouritest queen song of all time that I'm being so critical, but I'm going to go listen to the original now to get this outta my head.

^For me at least, it's his enunciation and the way he seeks favor. He's a very lazy speaker at times, slurring his vowels and consonants together. Nothing that a good voice coach and some practice under his belt can't fix; so that his T's pops and his S's don't sound like Z's, etc.

Regarding his attitude, specifically in this clip, he goes from delivering the information to "I'm going to ingratiate myself to the viewer by being funny" with the line: "We're talking cage match! Here comes the elbow!", etc. He loses the intelligent argument by trying to use an less-than-intelligent delivery and analogy. Maybe that works for some, but not me. If he's going to zing someone, then stay on target; Olbermann was good at doing that.

Oh and it's about time that some of the Right is waking up to that celebrity whore monster. Sadly, only some.

The Two Year Old Astrophysicist

@Mcboinkens Um, yes it does. The kid is two. Not only does he know his termonology and names, but his enunciation is pretty remarkable as well. At this age, him showing such an interest in these things and spending so much time with it, even if it's just memorizing key words, is a great start. If he can get the basics down (even if he's not grasping the true science behind them... jeez, what do you expect?) at such a young age, it'll be much easier for him to grasp more complicated concepts as he gets older. So yes, it DOES say something about him and his future. The kid is smart. Again, not sure about your expectations for a two year old, but this is outstanding.
