Rep. Weiner Debates the Public Option on Fox & Friends

Raaagh says...

Wow. As I watched that I heard a dirge of a wailing electric guitar, the studio set morphed into a post-apocalyptic battle ground, wiener morphed into a muscle-bound cyber viking and the fox people turned into an army of mindless automatons.

Awesome.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Coming To PS3 (Videogames Talk Post)

davidraine says...

>> ^xxovercastxx:

Personally, I'm looking forward to when they put the Final in Final Fantasy.

They did -- That's the story of the first Final Fantasy. Square had fallen on hard times and there was a chance they would have to close up shop, but they decided to write one last title and go out with a bang. They named it "Final Fantasy" because it could be their last game (and apparently Sakaguchi, the game designer for Square, was planning on retiring). Luckily for Square, the title was a smash hit and the rest is history.

Anyways, I still say we won't see an FF7 remake anytime soon. My guess is that Square-Enix will re-release FF5 and FF6 for the DS, and then they may consider an FF7 re-release for the PSP. I also doubt Dirge of Cerberus will see a sequel because the game did pretty poorly. We might see another Crisis Core type game based on its sales figures and press, but I'm not sure where the story can go from there.

Buddy Holly - The Day The Music Died- American Pie

eric3579 says...

Verse 1
A long long time ago
I can still remember how that music used to make me smile
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And maybe they'd be happy for a while
But February made me shiver
With every paper I'd deliver
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn't take one more step
I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died

So, bye-bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my chevy to the levee
But the levee was dry
And them good old boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die

Verse 2
Did you write the Book of Love
And do you have faith in God above
If the Bible tells you so
Do you believe in rock n' roll
Can music save your mortal soul
And can you teach me how to dance real slow
Well, I know that you're in love with him
'Cause I saw you dancin' in the gym
You both kicked off your shoes
Man, I dig those rhythm & blues
I was a lonely, teenage broncin' buck
With a pink carnation and a pickup truck
But I knew I was out of luck
The day the music died
I started singin'

Verse 3
Now for ten years we've been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rollin' stone
But that's not how it used to be
When the Jester sang for the King and Queen
In a coat he borrowed from James Dean
In a voice that came from you and me
Oh, and while the King was looking down
The Jester stole his thorny crown
The courtroom was adjourned
No verdict was returned
And while Lenin read a book on Marx
The quartet practiced in the park
And we sang dirges in the dark
The day the music died
We were singin'

Verse 4
Helter Skelter in a summer swelter
The birds flew off with a fallout shelter
Eight miles high and falling fast
It landed foul on the grass
The players tried for a forward pass
With the Jester on the sidelines in a cast
Now the half-time air was sweet perfume
While the Sergeants played a marching tune
We all got up to dance
Oh but we never got the chance
'Cause the players tried to take the field
The marching band refused to yield
Do you recall what was revealed
The day the music died
We started singing

Verse 5
Oh, and there we were, all in one place
A generation lost in space
With no time left to start again
So come on, Jack, be nimble, Jack be quick
Jack Flash sat on a candlestick
'Cause fire is the devils only friend
Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage
No angel born in Hell
Could break that Satan's spell
And as flames climbed high into the night
To light the sacrificial rite
I saw Satan laughing with delight
The day the music died
He was singing

Verse 6
I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news
But she just smiled and turned away
I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd heard the music years before
But the man there said the music wouldn't play

And in the streets the children screamed
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed
But not a word was spoken
The church bells all were broken
And the three men I admire most
The Father, Son and the Holy Ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died
And they were singin'

Bye-bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my chevy to the levy
But the levy was dry
And them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing this'll be the day that I die

They were singin'
Bye-bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my chevy to the levy
But the levy was dry
And them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing this'll be the day that I die

This game cost $32,000,000 to make

VII was amazing, never played VIII or beyond, other than Tactics, which I also loved. IV and VI are favorites as well.

Oh, Dirge of Cerberus was really awesome, too. I played it in Japanese, though. I heard the English dub was terrible.

A little look at a longer video of the context and a video of that portion in the original Japanese shows that the laughing was supposed to be purposefully ridiculous, but the way it's done in the English version comes off less ridiculous and more pathetic.

Besides that, this isn't so much a case of bad writing as it is the problem all dubs have: trying to come up with something that somewhat fits the mouth movements of the characters who were meant to be speaking another language. This results in things not really being a direct translation, and often ends up sounding really stupid. I would rather they just sub the cutscenes in English; they'd save money on paying voice actors to do shitty jobs at crappy semi-translated lines.

I really enjoyed that Death in Vegas sift. I saw the other you sent up a while earlier. Wonderful tune, particularly relevant for me as I'm eloping to Vegas in a short while. I downloaded some Death in Vegas and I found it to be not nearly as cool as that tune; is there an album of particular value, or is this a group whose Dirge towers above all else?

Also, I really enjoyed the Queen Rania video. This made me recall a BBC production entitled The 50 Years War, in which a speech of Rania's father in law is featured. On the precipice of death by cancer, he had some quite eloquent and benevolent words that truly warrant sifting, if you have the ambition.

Cheers

this guy has a really good voice. He also does some moonlighting in videogames. Final Fantasy 7: Dirge of Cerberus as Genesis. Apparantly he also appears in FF: Crisis Core as the same character.

Final Fantasy: Advent Children

I enjoyed the movie when I first saw it, and still do to this day, but I consider it entirely non-canon. (I also consider all the add-on games, such as Dirge of Cerberus, to be non-canon.) FF7 was enough to encompass the entire story, and that's all I need.

But watching Cloud and ...somebody... go mano-a-mano in Advent Children was still insanely cool.
