Mitt's Magical Mormon Undies: Penn Jillette's Rant Redux

bareboards2 says...

@def -- interesting that Orson Scott Card is the author of your understanding, since he is a deeply faithful Mormon who built many of his novels on Mormon myths. (Ender's Game, my brother tells me, is taken almost directly from Mormon stories.)

My brother converted to Mormonism in his early 20s. Wasn't raised in a church. Aerospace engineer, military pilot. You would think he would be immune.

I'll never forget him telling me -- once, never to be repeated -- that the church was telling him to believe things that were tough to accept, but he "chose to have faith."

That's it in a nutshell. You trade rationality for the other benefits, as others have noted here.

This game is fantastic, i've spent so many hours already on it. The elementalist needs some work as it's too weak in def and dmg, but all the other classes feel great. Game play rocks. So far my fav being the thief and the hunter.

Home Made Paper Plate Speakers?

Mythbusters bust a different project, which pretty obviously would never work and didn't really need busting. This project is awesome though. I love how he scavenges the wiring--a really creative solution. Hotglue FTW!

Exactly, a bit disingenuous to say he un busted the myth. He demonstrated you can make a speaker for that money, but it is neither 'hi def' (the original claimed that) nor anything you'd actually want to use.

And to be fair, you can pick up reasonable speakers for a buck from garage sales, trash and treasure... all over the place.

Still, it's a nice little science demonstration of the basics of a speaker.

Using Dominoes to Amplify Mechanical Advantage

Def in the "meh, so what?" group. He used energy to put those dominos standing up like that... Gravity as potential energy isn't a big deal, like

You could do the same thing with a super huge spring and a series of pins as triggers.>> ^spoco2:

Things like this are just awesome. You've knocked over a tinsy, tiny little thing and that's led to the huge thing falling over. I think a lot of people go 'meh, so what?', without thinking about it properly, and how cool it really is
