World's Greatest Drag Race! - 11 cars on air strip

TickleMyElmo says...

One of the GT-R's tricks is its launch control. Hit the switch, hold the brake, hold the gas, let go of the brake. The computer takes over and it will execute a textbook drag race for you.

You can see that the GT-R got its advantage at the start. The 458 was closing in at the end.

Other cars in this group (including the 458) have launch control. But it's *brutal* on the drivetrain -- they may not have wanted, or had permission, to use it on the more expensive cars.

I was quite surprised the Nissan GTR won. I knew it was fast but wow, not that fast. Sub $100,000 too. If I ever get absurdly rich thats the car I'm buying.

You know what else is good at cornering? Mazda Miata. It can corner well because an inherent property: it's weight. It's not engineering, it's a game of, "you don't really need air conditioning, do you?">> ^Jinx:

lol lotus?? pfffff lotus is SHITE! "Can't make this shitty Toyota engine more powerful, so let's just get rid of all the comforts and make it lighter" Fucking douches

Yes, how DARE they design a car that can take corners twice as fast as anything with a half tonne of engine in the front.

Corvette ZR1 vs Lambo SV by autocar.co.uk

sillma says...

How is that controversial in any way? There are many cars out there that can perform like supercars for fraction of the price, it's no news. You don't buy a supercar just for the performance, you buy it because they're outrageous

Aye, ZR1 is an excellent car, but if money wasn't an issue, I'd go for the lambo every single time given the choice. And if it was an issue, I'd buy a Nissan GTR

Will a HighTech channel overlap too much with the Geek channel? (User Poll by Duckman33)

ForgedReality says...

Not at all. Geek can be entirely separated from things which are high tech. An F-22 stealth fighter is high tech, but I wouldn't consider it a geek topic. The Nissan GTR has some very high-tech features, but it would be strange to me to call it geek.

By that same token, very often things that are geek are not necessarily high tech. The two are very different descriptions.

But yes, I'd say we don't need more channels. Do we really even need channels at all?

Dolphin Massacre in Japan

ForgedReality says...

Fuck you Japan. FUCK. YOU. Really. All of you and your entire culture can burn in the same nukes that take out all of motherfucking China as far as I care. You're all the fucking same.

All I want from you is a Nissan GTR R35. Other than that, you're useless.

The First Japanese Supercar? Nissan GTR- Jay Leno's Garage.

over 10 is long

That's what she said.

I'd consider the twin turbo Toyota Supra mark IV a Japanese supercar at least production-wise. The cool thing about the older Toyotas and Nissans are the potential they have for added horsepower. This dude that lived down the road from me a few years back with too much time and money on his hands (yes that's jealousy you detect) built a 1000hp supra. He had a couple others beefed up too.

But that was back when street racing and techno was cool. Now we've gotta conserve gas and listen to Phish.
