Rush Official Trailer #1 (2013)

CreamK says...

Can't wait for this movie to come out, it's interesting to see how to portray Lauda, he's not a nice guy IRL.. Hero, a champion but not a nice guy. James Hunt on the other hand, that's easy, he was a playboy and a party-man, perfect F1 driver for a movie. And like Titanic, we all know how the movie ends..

I love their responses in court. Love that response, we do not consider IRL. We say AFK because the internet is real. I for one know I need to be both AFK and IRL, more. The internet is real but I recently found out that what we are quite possibly when we die is, pure digital consciousness, in one infinite digital program. I mean I could be totally wrong but it scares the ^$*# out of me and makes me want to go frolic around IRL before I get sent back to the infinite paradoxical digital multiverse of oneness. Even though I know if it is true, there is only surrender and love but reason enough to lay off the tech and embrace IRL.

If someone is being constantly interrupted, they should try and learn a few things about voice projection. Just listening to this guy's apathetic monotone voice, it's amusing and fits the tone of his videos, but IRL it must sound like he's mumbling or speaking to himself.

I miss you guys too. I'm finding it hard to fit Videosift into my life anymore.

That said, I used to use this place as an outlet for me to rant about things I can't really discuss with people IRL.

I may end up starting a blog of my own, that way I won't have to find a video to use as a starting point for saying something I've been dying to get off my chest.

Interesting article, but I feel it does not really concern Videosift (correct me if I'm wrong). I know that I can get rather harsh and borderline insulting when discussing subjects that matter dearly to me, but not more than I would irl, and it is not beneath me to apologise for going too far.

Anonymity does allow for the worst in people to come out (on the web as in real life), but it seems on the Sift it is kept well in check by the community. Anonymity has that added benefit of allowing ideas to be exchanged/debated without the prejudices and preconceived ideas that are often attached to gender, ethnicity, age, ability, class, etc., and in that respect I find it quite valuable.

What an awesome creature! I know we have them here, but I have never seen one irl or moving like that. Mind, except for "Hinterland Who's Who". Giant skulls. Easily spooked, thankfully.

Saying joking about rape is okay because the people would [sic] really rape IRL doesn't work. The term gets used to validate oneself after 'dominating' an opponent. The validating is compared to sexual violence. Again, lets get creative.

We're completely off-topic here, but comparing dominating (and by implication humiliating) an opponent in a game to rape is, in fact, creative. It may be distasteful (it certainly is to me), but unless you can show some kind of scientific study that specifically links people who make the occasional joke about rape to actual real-world sexual violence I don't see any reason to censure people over it.
@Deano
When I was a lot younger as a gamer I too used "gay" in the pejorative sense frequently during FPS gaming sessions... until I started LAN gaming with a gay gamer. She never said anything about my use of the term, but I suddenly became acutely aware every time I used it when she was in the room. I started using it less and less and eventually I dropped the habit completely. As a "mature" gamer I chalk up the use of the terms "gay" and "rape" in gaming culture to mostly immaturity and a complete lack of awareness among most younger gamers about the daily reality homosexuals (particularly those living in the U.S.) and rape victims face.
Back to the video... remember when she fell down the hole? That was scary, huh?

I'm not one to use it myself, being far too old, but I note it's a very American thing. Though increasingly Brits are getting in on the usage as well.

It reminds of the use of illness as metaphor and having read Sontag's rant on the subject many years ago it's not something that ever changed or improved. Thus I can only see the gradual evolution of "gay" or whatever as something that's out of most peoples control. The kids will have their way in the end.
