KAMAZ Dakar Truck's Insane FOS Run

Mookal says...

Yep, the name comes from Dakar, Senegal (In Africa), when the race, the Dakar Rally, was originally ran from Paris to Dakar. It's now held in South America, yet retains the legacy name.

These are specially built off road vehicles, Kamaz is the manufacturer in this example. Like many races, there are different classes of trucks that compete in the Rally, alongside dirt bikes, quads and cars.

It's basically Mad Max and I encourage folks to check out highlights of it, or the similar Baja 1000 race.

Interestingly, the truck class includes support trucks that don't actually compete, but assist competitors stranded in the middle of nowhere.

This Red Bull sponsored Monster (energy drinks!) has right around 1000hp and a 265 gallon fuel tank if I recall correctly. Road trip!

Is Dakar the name of the model (type) of the truck?

(edit) I see Dakar seems to be the name of the race and the city?

STAR TREK BEYOND Official Trailer #2 (2016)

ChaosEngine says...

Yeah, sign me up for the "this looks awful" train.

Right now, there is one thing that might make me want to see this and that's the fact that Simon Pegg wrote it.

Because Simon Pegg is awesome and he actually cares about this.

But I can picture the scene now...

INT: PARAMOUNT EXEC's office
SIMON PEGG: "I've just finished the screenplay for the new Star Trek movie"
PARAMOUNT EXEC flicks through script, obviously not reading it

PARAMOUNT EXEC: "Great.. great! great work, Si (can I call you Si?) Now can we add some ninjas and dirt bikes?"

SIMON PEGG: "er, that's not really what it's about. And please don't call me Si."

PARAMOUNT EXEC: "Thanks Si! So we'll have those ninjas and dirt bikes in the next draft. Also good news, you'll never guess who we got to direct it."

SIMON PEGG: "I was thinking maybe Duncan Jones. He did some great sci-fi with Moon."

PARAMOUNT EXEC: "nah, he's off making an extended blizzard cgi sequence! No, even better, we got Justin Lin!"

SIMON PEGG: "The guy from Fast & Furious? Why? why would you...."

SIMON PEGG breaks down crying

PARAMOUNT EXEC laughs maniacally

The 4 Most Insulting TV Ads you see Every Christmas

SFOGuy says...

You know, one thing. I watched it all the way to the end---and I have to say, I have personally known of some spectacularly bad Christmas presents given by men to the women in their lives:
to wit (and I am NOT making this up)
---A limo ride with champagne in a bucket, a red rose and (drum roll) a wrapped bondage outfit with a whip in the back seat (she was not into that and NOT amused)
---A washer and dryer (oops)
---Most spectacularly: a dirt bike. And no, she was in no way, no manner, even mildly interested in getting one. Friend's dad, and he was in the dog house a long, long time.
LOL

Mountain bike backflip over 72ft gap

Sagemind says...

Well, as much as I want to say that's cheating, we used to do the same thing with dirt bikes. We'd spend a few days cutting stumps and building up burms and digging out sections. they weren't always usable right away though, but after you leave them for a few weeks and let the ground harden up again, it made for some great trail circuits.

Enzoblue said:

The way they do it now is the Red Bull ppl get there early and make the basic stuff, then the competitors are allowed to make their own paths - they actually have their own people get on course with pics and shovels.

Crazy Lady Doesn't Like Skateboarding, or Little Bastards

albrite30 says...

Bravo. In my youth I once had a person attempt to "confiscate" my dirt bike, because he "thought" I was doing something I shouldn't have. The only thing I was doing was doing skidouts in the dirt at the end of a bike path on public property. People think they have all kinds of "right" when it comes to enforcing other people's behavior. The fact is that they DO NOT. The proper response in this woman's position would have been to politely ask them to leave. Then if they didn't leave call the police non-emergency number to report the trespass. Not 911! Most skateboarders will leave as soon as they are asked to and the rest will leave after the police are contacted.

Lulz....since when can you legally confiscate anything anywhere even if its on your property? (BTW she was a building manager not an owner)

But sir...i didn't steal their wallet. I CONFISCATED it. Carry on then....

You're lucky you were able to bully those laser-pointer KIDS into giving you their pointer. They could have easily told you to buzz-off. Then What? Then you could have either awkwardly sat back down or you could have been the 'crazy lady' in a movie theatre.

The only legal thing to do is have a chat and if that doesn't work, call the authorities.

Who actually fucking does that shit? Let it fall out naturally. Why the fuck would you risk trauma? Also, Who the fuck lets their kid ride a goddamn dirt bike in fucking flip flops and a dress?

There's letting kids get their bumps and scratches, and then there's being fucking irresponsible for the sake of YouTube views.
