When Two Filmmakers Make the Same Movie

newtboy says...

I recall the Kraffts being childhood heroes for fearlessly getting so intimate with erupting volcanoes and bringing their beautiful power to light in the 70s and 80s.
Herzog is the perfect choice for their story, even if he embellishes.

The Duality Of MAGA

newtboy says...

Nope, these were the only ones that could string sentences together. The MENSA of MAGA. There were 3 of them. I point to your last bungled attempt at English above/below and inability to count to 3 as a prime example of average MAGA grammar and lucidity.

I wonder if they know ALL the Trumps got kicked out of New York for running a 100% criminal racket….or that it was not his first fraudulent business, just the largest.
I wonder if they know he paid millions for racist illegal “redlining” in the 80s but never stopped.
I wonder if they know the entire family is banned from not only running any businesses but also banned from charity work because they ran fake charities for veterans they stole from and never did any charity work with donations, just bought things for themselves.

Shogun - Trailer

I have no idea since I never saw the 80s minseries. I just saw its cheesy trailer. Haha.

newtboy said:

I also liked the first two episodes.
You might know, how close is this to the 80s miniseries? I never saw it, and now I’m second guessing that choice.

That’s a random non sequitur. What does that have to do with the blatant disgusting “not as I do” hypocrisy and total incompetence of Ziegler or the rape committed by her husband? Nothing.

Wanna finish your thought?
Or was that it…an incomplete thought/brain fart you just needed to get out? 🤦‍♂️

To be clear, your party absolutely believes being fired for being gay IS NOT WRONG. They fought hard and long to try to keep it legal to discriminate against citizens based on sexual orientation, and have not stopped trying since they lost that fight in the 80’s. You still fight constantly for the right to deny service based on sexual orientation. You yourself have equated homosexuality with active pedophilia and clearly it’s ok to fire someone for being a child sex abuser. Your logic and consistency are completely absent, because you don’t believe anything you say, you just need to spout nonsensical accusations constantly to feel better about yourself. 😂

I’m guessing you meant to say “being fired for having sex at work ISN’T.”? Do you think there’s anyone disagreeing? He was fired immediately without objections once discovered, what are you saying? More fighting paper tigers and windmills. Go Don Quixote!

Documentation of the blackmail scheme has surfaced proving Thomas and Scalia told Republican members of congress that if they didn’t raise their compensation in 2000 they would leave the court. At the time, after over a decade on the court at $175k (in the 80s and 90s that was a lot), Thomas’s lavish spending had him millions in debt.

Republicans couldn’t get the votes to raise their pay significantly, but they COULD hook them up with billionaires that would gift them millions per year. As soon as the donors stepped up, he suddenly had millions in the bank and all debts wiped clean. Now he’s worth tens of millions. Republicans are firmly against imposing ANY ethics requirements for the Supreme Court and are actively blocking imposing any as long as they have the majority in the court and the deepest pockets to bribe them with.

Today he takes home a half million on top of millions in bribes every year, and you turn the other way and put blinders on to cling to your tenuous political power instead of acting to save the nation. Shows where MAGAs heads are.

Thoughts and Prayers vs Drowning

cloudballoon says...

I'm a Christian, and I absolutely detest American "thoughts and prayers"-ism. It's done so much damage to America (or abroad) and not just passively let evil deeds to keep happening, it also created and justified many of those deeds. Especially on gun violence, it's downright vile and the 2nd amendment "interpretation" (more like ignoring 100% of the context and 80% of the text before & after "right to bear arms").

This toxic combo of "thoughts & prayers" and "rights to bear arms".... is this "American Exceptionalism"? It happens to no other countries, and I don't see many of their government are less "democratic" or "free," nor its citizens have less rights.

The passivity of whole "thoughts and prayers" is NOT what Jesus said, nor what Jesus wants its followers do. If people read the NT, then they'll know Jesus is more of a SJW progressive/activist than what half of the US - the right leaning people - say Jesus is.

Oh, the all-too-easy "my heart breaks for..." whatever tragedy a politician/faith leaders heard and then DON'T do anything that they can help bring legislation to minimize said tragedy? Just as bad and hypocritical.

What gives a "law abiding" citizen the right to bare mass killing machine guns? Or owning hundreds and thousands of ammo in a home? For self-defense? Is that necessary? Really it's just a twisted sense of entitlement/freedom or some kind of nihilistic fetish. You know, I have the crazy "Borat" idea that if I'm an American (I'm Canadian, so I don't have the "right" to do anything directly), I'd troll the far-right Republican cultists using my Christian "credential" to demand my right to bear ANY arms... like anything from bombs, grenades to tanks, fighter jets and nuclear missiles as a private collection as long as I can afford it (Hooray, Capitalism!). It's my freaking "God"-given right! Carry the selective 2nd amendment reading to the extreme to see how ridiculous the status quo already is! ... But the thing is, I'm not sure anymore if there already IS a critical mass of far-right crazies that really believe what I said make total sense.

And another MAGA “bombshell” turns out to be another rehashing of another two year old nothing burger. You guys sure grasp at old straws a lot.

Now you idiots are trying to twist a car payment into some China China China nonsense, claiming this well documented under $5k repayment of 3 car payments Joe made for Hunter when Biden was not in office or running for office is somehow proof that China bought Joe and he changed policy for them (for under $5000)…but the $35000000 given to Ivanka while Daddy was in active trade negotiations, *nothing to see…the hundreds of millions directly from the Chinese government hidden by Trump in secret unreported Chinese bank accounts, *shrug…how about the $2000000000 handed to Jared in direct exchange for classified information (that they used to target and murder spies, political rivals, and enemies we outed) despite having zero investment experience and being 100% denied by their vetting process, *la-la-la-la-la.

You people are such hypocrites it’s unbelievable. You are completely covered in 5 different kinds of horrific animal shits head to toe while actively having explosive diarrhea in the middle of dinner and screaming to high heaven incessantly that the person at the other end of the table has bad breath despite every woman there mentioning his minty freshness.

I swear I’m shocked you haven’t started insisting the oceans are red, or tried to poison them because they’re blue. The just plain insane stupidity your cult spouts daily would have you committed if America had a mental health care system anymore, but thanks to Republicans in the 80’s we don’t and you’re all out there screaming on the corner.

Fastest UFC Knockout Ever

newtboy says...

With the AVERAGE price for tickets being over $675, I 100% agree, even if the warm up matches were good.
The main event should definitely last longer than the introduction.
IMO there should be at least one good backup fight scheduled in the event the main event is 30 seconds long or cancelled. Multiple incredibly short Tyson fights in the 80’s proved that audiences feel cheated by such short fights.

BSR said:

I'd ask for my money back. That was WAY too short for my expectations. A fight should take long enough for me to at least finish my drink and popcorn! Just listen to how upset that crowd is! What's this world coming to anyway?

Ugh….Newark airport. So sorry.

I went there once…my dad was on federal trial in Newark in the early 80’s. Dirtiest, most industrially polluted city I’ve ever seen, and I lived next to Texas Cityand the Houston ship channel, an enormous refinery and ship channel between Houston and Galveston….biggest and most polluting in America by far at the time.

We went to NYC on the weekend…by comparison it was squeaky clean. I’ve never wanted to go back to either city.

Even without any skunk apes to see, it’s a great scenic train ride.
I took it with my parents in the early 80s on one of the days they run the old steam engine train. I think they still do a few times a year. Just beautiful back then….almost completely undeveloped the entire ride, then Silverton was a quaint old West themed town.
Good times….good times.
