enoch's Sift Talk Posts

the world is a bit less brighter today

videosift is an internet community that is rare in today's day and age.unlike sites like reddit where people become comfortable in anonymity,or the deluge of clickbait sites which seek solely to distract, titillate or shock.videosift over the years has become a haven for people who genuinely seek to share their interests, voice their opinion or just hang out.

some extraordinary people have frequented this site and shared their profound insights, revealed new perspectives and new ways of thinking, engaged in some glorious arguments and even a few all out brawls, but always with a humanity that most other sites lack.many of us have fostered real and genuine friendships.

on october 3rd videosift lost one if it's pioneer members who helped foster this amazing and very human atmosphere and i am here to sadly report that our own rascal cat schmawy Everett is no longer with us.

schmawy shall be greatly missed, for his brilliant wit,his disarming charm and an ability to bring a sly sense of humor to the most volatile of situations.

for those who may never had gotten the opportunity to interact with schmawy, you missed out on one the most human people i had ever the privilege to engage, for those who did know schmawy...well..then you know his soft ease and comfortable charm which would make him instantly likeable.

so if you would like to leave a memory here of your encounter with the human formerly known as schmawy.please..by all means..leave a comment.or if you are a facebook friend with him,go to his page:https://www.facebook.com/schmawy

so while the world is less bright today,
here is to you schmawy evereet.../tips glass
shine on you crazy diamond.

humans are a diverse bunch and we all do things according to our own preferences and while i know why i post to videosift,i have always been curious why YOU post.

so i decided to create a poll, that i hope you will participate in,by revealing why you post to our beloved videosift.what is your motivation to post a video? your intentions? what is the driving factor in posting material you have found on the internet.

speaking only for myself,i am a former lurker who realized that maybe i was not alone in my eclectic and oftentimes eccentric tastes.so i decided to start posting videos based on a long LONG list of content that ,though a tad obscure, may find an audience.

and lo and behold! it turned out i was not the only one with a propensity for oddness.

i have met some wonderful people who i admire and respect.my ideas and philosophies have been challenged to my delight and sometimes chagrin.my music and art library has grown due to so many here on the sift who have shared some amazing talent that i would have otherwise never been exposed to.

sifters who have taken the time to explain their views on politics or history that i would have never even considered.changing my outlook on a great many things.

in short:i am a different person who has grown because of people like YOU and i wish to let you know the breadth of my gratitude.
thank you all so much for just being you.you make this place what it is and what it will be.
stay awesome.

lets help GEO321 get his well deserved crown

hello fellow sifters,
our friend GEO is only a few sifts from getting crowned and well deserved in my opinion.
geo has been a consistent poster of top quality:art, science, documentaries, politics, music and animation.
so go give his pq a look and not only sift some great videos but help our friend get his crown.

a 9/11 conspiracy theory that makes sense

after 9/11 i went through a fairly broad arc of understanding concerning events leading up to and the aftermath of 9/11.
for awhile i was even a "truther" (yeah.i said it.so what?)
but after consequent debunkings and a more concise and accurate information flow i had to admit that the "controlled demolition" and even the more palatable "false flag" theories didnt hold water.
so where id that leave me?
did this mean i accepted the US governments "conspiracy theory"?
well.....
no.

asking permission to create my ELECTRONICA channel

this is the channel i had in mind when i first started posting videos here on the sift.
mainly because we do not have one and many times i felt the channel tags lacked when it came to this style and genre of music.
since we seem to be split on how new channels should be submitted let me be the first to put my neck on the chopping block, but before you arbitrarily dismiss my creation idea let me make my case.
what exactly do i mean by electronica?
the electronica channel will be a sub genre channel just like rock and roll, blues or hip hop.
lets consider just what electronica may be.
electronica is any music that is in whole or part created by:synthesizer, samples, loops, digitized media and can even be considered electronica when accompanied by organic instruments.synthesizers were started being experimented with in the late 50's so that is a fairly large chunk of music history and has influenced multiple genres and styles of music.
now that we have established WHAT electronica encompasses, lets take a look at what could possibly be considered appropriate for the electronica tag:
steve miller band-fly like an eagle-electronica/classic rock
flock of seagulls-i ran-electronica/new wave
pink floyd-several different species of furry animals gathered together in a cave grooving with a pict-electronica/acid rock
NIN-wish-electronica/industrial/punk
sasha and digweed-remake of enjoy the silence-electronica/techno/trance
crystal method-high roller-electronica
diary of dreams-the curse-electronica/goth
VNV nation-illusion-electronica
KMFDM-WWIII-electronica/metal
lunatic calm-leave you behind-electronica/post punk

i could go on for hours but suffice to say electronica would give us sifters who post mainly music a tag that can help narrow the field down a bit and would help those who may wish to know upfront what kind of music they may be listening to and 60 years is a pretty huge well of music history to draw from.

i can only speak for myself but i have over 100 videos that will fit into this channel but i know:
evil disco man
kulpims
eklek
paul4dirt
geo321
volumptuous
stingray
erik5637(forgot that actual numbers..sorry bud)
farhad2000
alien concept
and soon to have a massive electronica library-playwithfire
and many others here have large archives also that would fit into this channel.(if i forgot anyone my apologies)

so there we have it kids.i leave my new channel in your hands.
i think i made my case though.
and on a side note:
i am not a purist, you will not see me argue over if a song is hard trance or ambient.happy hardcore or hard house.
if it uses non-organic instruments it is electronica, even the awful stuff (and there is some awful electronica out there).
vote away kiddies......

the BUSH admin BLOCKED efforts to prevent housing crisis

from raw story:
Federal regulators in the Bush administration blocked attempts by state governments to prevent predatory lending practices that resulted in the financial crisis now stalking the American economy, a new study from the University of North Carolina says.

In 2004, the Office of the Currency Comptroller, an obscure regulatory agency tasked with ensuring the fiscal soundness of America's banks, invoked an 1863 law to give itself the power to override state laws against predatory lending. The OCC told states they could not enforce predatory-lending laws, and all banks would be subject only to less-strict federal laws.

Now, a research paper (PDF) from UNC-Chapel Hill's Center for Community Capital shows that those anti-predatory lending laws had actually worked. States that had stricter regulations on issuing mortgages were found to have fewer foreclosures.

"We believe that these findings are remarkable, since they suggest an important and yet unexplored link between [anti-predatory lending laws] and foreclosures," the study's authors state.

The study may be the first scientific evidence to back up claims made by many critics that the Bush administration and earlier administrations allowed last year's financial crisis to happen by not enforcing common-sense regulations on lenders.
