Vicious Attack on girl in Sauk Village Park caught on Video

It begins with one teenage girl pinning and pummeling another in the dirt in a Sauk Village public park.

But within the space of about two minutes, other girls join the attack, cutting off the victim’s long dark hair with scissors and burning her scalp with a cigarette lighter.

Sarah Kraft and Marcelena Castillo, a pair of 17-year-olds, are each charged with aggravated battery in connection with an attack on a girl in a Sauk Village park.

And the June 2 daylight beating is all caught on a video camera phone, posted Friday on myfoxchicago.com

“You’re burning my head!” the 17-year-old victim can be heard shrieking, unable to move.

The victim suffered a concussion, bruising, abrasions and several burns, and she spent the evening in the hospital, said Sauk Village police Det. Robert Grossman.

Two people have been arrested and charged in the case and are due in court in Markham Saturday, Grossman said. At least two more juveniles remain under investigation.

Sarah Kraft, 17, of Park Forest and Marcelena Castillo, 17, of Steger, are each charged with aggravated battery, Grossman said. He said both girls have given statements to investigators.

Grossman said the victim, who is from South Chicago Heights, and the defendants “traveled in the same circles.”

“It appears the main catalyst for this incident was a misuse of Kraft’s vehicle by the victim some weeks before,” a source close to the case said.

Kraft and Castillo allegedly lured the victim to the park under false pretenses, Grossman said. Kraft then allegedly jumped on top of the victim and began punching her.

“Our victim wasn’t showing up to fight anybody,” Grossman said. “Our victim thought she was showing up for other reasons.”

Grossman said police received the video from the victim’s mother, but he wasn’t certain how she got it.

At one point in the video, as the victim’s hair lies in the dirt, the person making the video is heard to say, “That’s bogus as hell.” Even after the victim is beaten, burned and has her hair cut off, the beating continues.
