The murder of Benazir Bhutto - prelude to chaos in Pakistan?

Police confirmed reports Pakistani former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto had been shot in the neck and chest before the gunman blew himself up.
She died at 18.16 (13.16 GMT), said Wasif Ali Khan, a member of the PPP opposition party who was at hospital. (Dec. 27th 2007)

Some supporters at the hospital wept while others broke into anger, throwing stones at cars and breaking windows.
Protests erupted in other cities as news of the assassination spread, with reports of 11 deaths in the PPP's heartland province of Sindh, including four in provincial capital, Karachi.
More than 100 cars were burned in Karachi, while cars and a train were reportedly set on fire in Hyderabad.

The United Nations Security Council held an emergency session and later said it "unanimously condemned" the assassination. White House spokesman Scott Stanzel condemned "the acts of violence" in the assassination. United States President George W. Bush called it a "cowardly act by murderous extremists" and said the "criminals" responsible "must be brought to justice". British Prime Minister Gordon Brown condemned the acts saying that it was "a sad day for democracy" and "a tragic hour for Pakistan". The Prime Minister of neighbouring India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, expressed deep shock at the assassination of Benazir Bhutto. Dr Singh stated, “The manner of her going is a reminder of the common dangers that our region faces from cowardly acts of terrorism and of the need to eradicate this dangerous threat.”
