The Emergence of a Newt.

With this short film 'Becoming' Jan van IJken shows the wonder of the origin of life. Down to the smallest detail, we see the 'making of' an Alpine water salamander in the transparent egg, from the first cell division to hatching. A single cell is transformed into a complete, complex living organism with a beating heart and circulating blood. The early stages of embryo development are roughly the same for all humans and animals. In the film, we witness a process that normally remains invisible: the very beginning of an animal's life.
