Tests of the rocket-assisted take off and landing C130's

"Operation Credible Sport was a United States military aircraft modification plan in late 1980 to prepare for a second rescue attempt of the hostages held in Iran using C-130 cargo planes modified with rocket engines." - Wikipedia

These C130's were modified so that they could land and take off within the limits of the Amjadien Stadium, which was near to the U.S. Embassy in Tehran where the hostages were being held.

Rockets were used to rapidly decellerate the plane during landing, as well as soften what would have been a hard landing. More rockets were then used to get the C130 airborne within 150ft!
