Sydney Cohen was one of the first psychiatrists to decry the overuse and abuse of LSD prescriptions. Though he felt that the powerful drug had great potential as a therapeutic treatment for alcoholism and a number of other ailments, he saw possible dangers in it as well. His calls for regulation helped to bring the kind of attention to the the acclaimed wonder-drug that would lead to its prohibition.
