Shift - Malice (Live) Amazing Psytrance Party Footage

Here is a video of a party that I wish I could have been to. This is Shift aka Chris Hoy, one of the most exciting new psytrance projects to emerge this side of year 2000. Shift is one of the leaders of the influential and popular psytrance scene in Cape Town, South Africa.

Here he is playing to a packed house in Brazil, and the legendary Brazilian enthusiasm shines through brightly in this video. Gorgeous deco, projections and an interesting room with what appear to be balconies. This video shows off two of the exciting new offshoots of the music that began in the early nineties in India.

Starting in around 1988 psychedelic trance was born in Goa, India, and was brought home to spawn scenes in the UK, Germany and Israel. Now, 15+ years later, the vibrancy, creativity and energy of those scenes has branched out further, spawning offshoots all around the globe, even as the popularity is diminishing in the UK and Germany.

Brazil and Mexico shot into the limelight in the early part of this decade, Russia and Northern European have slowly started to also become inflencial, but the SURGE of popularity in Cape Town, South Africa has had a tremendous effect on the global psytrance community.

The new sound of South African Psychedelic Trance is probably my favourite music in the world.
