This is a video that my mate shot, experimenting with his camera. It literally takes my breath away. Oh, and BTW, he is also an amazing composer...
Anyway, from the Vimeo site:
I originally shot this footage in 2009, to test the low light capabilities of the new 5D MKII which had only just been released by Canon. After a week of shooting, I put the footage on the shelf and that is where it stayed, until now.

Last Wednesday (22 Feb 2012), I had a striking urge to dig this up from my archives. After spending the first couple of hours going through what I'd captured, I decided that I wanted to put a short reel together and take it with me to visit my grandfather, Les, who was in hospital a few hours away.

Les was a huge photography fan, and no doubt a great influence on my photographically-blessed sister, Rachel Greig, who in turn influenced me to get into the practice. Always asking to see more of our work, I realised last Wednesday that I had only ever shown him one photo from my astrophotography taken on our family farm in Nymagee, NSW.

So I started working on this edit, knowing that he would be fascinated to see how far image technology has come. It took me two days.

On Saturday morning, at 10:15am, I finished the edit, uploaded it to vimeo and walked outside.

Thirty minutes later, while I was out, I received a call from my mum letting me know that Les had just passed away… coincidentally, she said the time he left us was 10:15am.

I'm not a big believer of fate, I believe life and the opportunities within are what you make of it. But sometimes, something happens in your world that just tells you to do something and sets you on a path. This has just made me want to develop more of this kind of work, and to share it more often.

This video is dedicated to the memory of Les Korsch, an avid lover of Australian Photography.
