Bob Flanagan was a performance artist who specialized in mutilating himself. He died of complications from cystic fibrosis in 1995. If you ever have the opportunity to see the documentary SICK about Flanagan, then I would highly recommend it. It is probably the sweetest and most touching movie that you will ever see about a man who drove nails through his penis for a living.
