Look Ma, no nails! (Japanese precision carpentry)

This is insanely precise woodworking. I think I know that traditional Japanese Temples are built without nails or screws---and are meant to last a hundred years (or more) using that sort of joinery.

This scarfed (am I using the right term) join of two beams to make one is a tremendous demonstration of craftsmanship.

Eventually, that beam will become part of a Temple, such as here:
