Kids Served Wiper Fluid Instead of Kool-Aid at Daycare

A daycare worker in Arkansas accidentally served kids windshield wiper fluid after mistaking it for Kool-Aid.

The wiper fluid was purchased by an employee of the center and put in the refrigerator. Later, the fluid was pulled out, poured into cups and served to the children at the daycare. Children's hospital toxicologist Laura James said she's seen plenty of children ingest the wrong thing, but never seen a case in which an adult served it to them.

"One of the individuals at this daycare had recently gone shopping, they had purchased the windshield wiper fluid and purchased a Kool-Aid type child's drink, both of which were brightly colored," James said.

The wiper fluid contains methanol, which can lead to vomiting and sleepiness. Ten children were taken to the hospital after ingesting the fluid.
