American becomes unlikely new star on Arabs Got Talent

Jennifer Grout, a 23 year old singer from Cambridge Massachusetts sings classical Arabic songs on MBC's "Arabs Got Talent" despite not being able to speak Arabic to the Lebanese judges. She has been studying Arabic music since 2010, and moved to Morocco after finishing University.

Lara Nassif, an executive producer at MBC says "Jennifer has given Arabs a sense of renewed pride in their heritage, history and culture," she says. "She's not Arab but she's singing something that Arabs can identify with. Usually, it's just the opposite."

The song is called بعيد عنك (Ba’eed ‘annuk) meaning "Far from you"

The final was yesterday, the 7th of December, and she finished in the top 3 but Sima won.
