A sinkhole developed below a holding pond for radioactive water produced by Mosaic, a fertilizer company in Florida. The company has said over 250000000 gallons of radioactive water has leaked into the aquifer that provides drinking water to Florida and Georgia....and claims they can somehow remove it by drilling another well and pumping water out....a seemingly ridiculous plan, as the water in the aquifer flows, so is not stationary or separated in any way, and is a connected system throughout the state. European news is reporting the number is closer to 1 billion gallons, which is likely closer to the truth if past disasters are any indicator.
It's unknown publicly how contaminated this water is, how dangerous it might be, or how far it may spread. It sounds like Florida and S Georgia may have to find a new source for water...you can't even use the contaminated water on plants without vaporizing it, spreading the contamination to the air and contaminating the plants....so this could also be the end of all farming in Florida and Georgia if the worst comes to pass.
One question that has yet to be asked/answered....why does a fertilizer plant have a lake filled with radioactive water?!?
