Safety is Number One Priority with Balloons

nanrod says...

I think it's a function of the pressure of the air already in the balloon relative to the pressure required to add air to the balloon. When you blow up a balloon the first few puffs require a lot of pressure to inflate and then it becomes easier until it approaches maximum size.

Big Boobs Problems

nanrod says...

I thought that for some but not all. The difficulty in buying sports and regular bras has nothing to do with showing off. And the problem of people staring at the gym does not go away even if you completely cover up.

newtboy said:

Every problem she mentions stems from her pathological NEED to show off as much of her boobs as possible in the tightest clothing they'll squeeze into. Absolutely zero sympathy for her, because she causes all these problems, all of which are easily solved by NOT needing to show off as much cleavage as possible at all times. Note, her problem with sports bras are they don't show off her cleavage.

I think she also intentionally ignored the other enormous 'up side' of big boobs, she never has to pay for anything.

Could we, should we annihilate Zika mosquitoes?

There are a number of other techniques for suppression or elimination of particlular pest species around the world. Check out the Sterile Insect Technique being used against the screwworm fly which has already 100% eliminated that particular nasty from the US and Mexico. There is also the Daughterless Carp Project in Australia aimed at eliminating an invasive carp species from the Darling River system. It involves releasing genetically modified male carp that are incapable of producing female offspring. Unlike 20 or 30 years ago I think the possible consequences of these various techniques are now being considered.

Whenever there's a mosquito vectored disease, people talk about eradicating mosquitos, but never consider their role in the food chain, and it is not a small role.
They also never consider the effects of the eradication methods, which are often poison sprayed into the air or onto ponds. Decades ago, a 12 year old boy designed and made a device for eradicating mosquitos in water using sound waves for a science project, and it worked. He tuned his device to resonate at the same frequency as the gas bladder in mosquito larva, popping it and killing the mosquitos without effecting anything else, and leaving no residue. For some reason, I never hear about that method being used, but instead often see people dosing small ponds with poison, oil, or bacteria, all of which harm other organisms.
Targeting single strains of mosquito with genetics may be a good way to deal with disease issues, but will certainly also have unexpected unpredictable consequences. I hope they remember the fiasco caused by creating killer bees and study the issue from all sides thoroughly before releasing them into the wild.

The Hole in the Ocean

The thumbnail and the title are totally misleading. I thought this video would be about blue holes like the one in Belize. Instead it's about plate tectonics and the Marianas Trench.

The Importance of CPR

nanrod says...

I'm pretty sure that the message here is not "this is how you do it" but "Go and learn how to do it "

worthwords said:

good message but it was all wrong. In children you start with a rescue breath and then chest compressions. The compressions shown here were too slow and no where near deep enough to generate circulation and it's not useful to give such a gentle image as it might stop people giving proper compressions in future.

In reality it's vigorous and its not unusual to get rib fractures as a result.

Why are there dangerous ingredients in vaccines?

nanrod says...

Thanks. You saved me all the typing. First thing I thought when reading his comment was, "If your MD is injecting your vaccines directly into your bloodstream ... HE'S DOING IT WRONG"

worthwords said:

Wrong, a 100% bioavailability is when a substance is introduced *intravenously* not intramuscularly or subcutaneously.

>> ocassional inadvertent ingestion and inhalation.
This is the most common rout - the skin is a major part of the immune system to keep pathogens out. we are exposed to thousands of compounds which trigger immune response and antibody creation each day via he respiratory system.

>>These damaging elements have perfect access to the brain
There is something called the blood brain barrier but nevertheless the pathogen is injected locally as mentioned not systemically.

>>Did you know autism is a known neural disruption?
this is a nonsense statement. the truth is we known very little about autism but while there are association, cause is not clear and the association with vaccines were initiated by a dishonest and discredited 'researcher'

I understand your basic premise but this is cargo cult science at its worse. very sad.
If you would like to learn more about bioavailability and how it's measured there are some good basic books on pharmcodynamics which are quite easy to read.
