Ok I'm sorry, i know this is my third comment on this but I've been perplexed/utterly fascinated by this whole thing. It seems like the website http://politics.freesitenow.com/basilmarceauxforgovernor/ which is where BasilMarceaux.com will redirect you to is down due to a huge traffic influx but I found others who have been to the site:

"When I first saw the video early this morning, I thought Marceaux had just kicked back a few too many drinks to calm his nerves before a big television appearance but, after viewing Marceaux’s website (which, despite what he says in the video, totally isn’t ImBasilMarceaux.com or even BasilMarceaux.com) and reading his writings, it became clear that what you see is what you get and that this is the real Basil Marceaux…or possibly the most brilliant political performance art prank since Andy Kaufman threw on some cheek puddy, faked a deeper gruff voice, and made everyone believe that there was a real man named “Richard Nixon“. On the website, Marceaux has a list of “Things I done for my citizens,” asks “why Democracy invaded the U.S. State on July 16 1866,” and promises that, if people vote for him, “I WIN I WILL IMMUNE YOU FROM ALL STATE CRIMES FOR THE REST OF YOU LIFE!” Even more amazingly, you can check out his son’s site (Basil Jr. is running for Tennessee House Representative) and find some equally terrific quotes."

[EDIT]

And if you want a REAL laugh check out his youtube page which consists of nothing but him staring into the camera for 8 minutes with static audio

Couldn't of said it better if I tried. Would you mind if I quote this in my bio? Is there a different attribution you would like?

In reply to this comment by marinara:
the crucifixion of Jesus was a victory for the intolerant god-worshipers and a defeat of a man trying to love the people oppressed by a dogmatic and systematic religion. They killed him legally.

2000 years later, we're waiting for jesus to come back.

Sixty Symbols: Dark Matter

GeeSussFreeK says...

There is a distinctly large difference between black holes and dark matter as they refer to being mathematical before observed. The idea of black holes arose out of the logical extrapolation of his pure concept. IE, this is what small "a" looks like, this is what medium "a" looks like, this is what large "a" looks like, therefor, this is what infinite "a" would look like.

Dark matter isn't like that at all. Dark matter is since this is what "a" looks like, and "a" does not sufficiently explain what is happening, we have to invent "b" to so that "a" still holds for all other cases where "a" does act as a sufficient explanation. This should be highly suspect.

I am actually surprised you bring up the standard model. As it stands, the standard model does not have anything to say about gravitation, at all. And the classical model has nothing to say about particles. It is PRECISELY these discrepancy (perhaps divergence is a better word) that makes me think it is in inability to explain the fundamental relationships of the most basic of things rather than some unknowable spaghetti monster known as dark matter.

Sixty Symbols: Dark Matter

GeeSussFreeK says...

arg, hard for me that watch this. I think it is more accurate to say that there is 95% of the theory of gravity that doesn't work right now, rather than to say gravity is perfect and this undetectable (it isn't exothermic or endothermic, nor does it reflect light or any electromagnetic radiation, and works like gravity in reverse(it has a repelling force not a binding force yet it binds itself and only repels normal matter) matter and energy (which o, is nearly all the known matter and energy in the universe). Or perhaps dark matter and energy are just ghosts, whooooooooo WHOOOOOOOOOO!!

In all seriousness, it "could" exist. But this is really one of those cases similar to retrograde motion of the planets. If one holds without question that earth is the center of rotation of the universe you have to create retrograde motion out of necessity. Same goes for here, if you assume that the little we know about space, energy, matter and time are so accurate that they are beyond question then you do "need" this invisible, unknowable thing called dark matter...either that or one of our more fundamental understandings are flawed. What say you guys, I am alone on this?

Thanks for putting this so well!

geesussfreek, i downvoted this video for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the alarmist rhetoric of monsieur paul, who does indeed exacerbate the already violent feelings about obama by whackos. and lets remember that monsieur paul (albeit involuntarily) spawned what is today known as the tea party.

i also felt compelled to downvote this video because of your caption about the need to get more guns and ammo. i think this is an unreasonable reaction, especially since, as volumptuous reminds us, OBAMA is actually trying to bring these things more out into the open.

>> ^volumptuous:
Wait. What American citizen has Obama assassinated?
And if I remember correctly, not only has Obama signed documents over a year ago to close GITMO, but he's also pushing for criminal trials of terrorists. But, it's the congress that is holding this shit up, not Obama.
So, maybe Dr.Paul here needs to have a R3VOLUTION to push these things forward. Not just give a fucking speech on an empty house floor.

Oh, ya think so? I'm pretty sure the idea is to throw the grenade out of the "structure" and that would be rather difficult if there weren't any holes.
>> ^lucky760:
And thank goodness there was no roof on that structure (likely intentionally)

Perhaps you're unaware because you don't pay attention to mainstream media, but there's this great, new invention called windows. They're basically like big holes in your walls. I know what you're probably thinking: "Those are called doorways, dummy!" I'll tell you why you're wrong. Windows are different from doorways because they usually aren't intended for the passage of persons.

You can learn more about them at WikiPedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Window

I completely agree btw. I can't bring myself to watch oberman so I won't comment there. I love the logic people used there...since he is a doctor and has the ability to help people...he must. I would like to see the tables turned on that logic and say they are responsible for every child that starves for every piece of luxury they buy. It is not like there is a shortage on doctors that person can get help from...now food on the other hand...

Non-violent protest against a political ideology...hmmm where does that sound familiar...Martin Luther King Jr., Ghandi? Didn't they receive Nobel Peaces Prizes? And this guy gets a * Terrible and on the "Worst Person List?"

The liberal mind is seriously warped...

Well said! Your words have a simple elegance which has forever eluded me.

In reply to this comment by imstellar28:
There are quite a few digressions in this thread, but I don't think anyone has actually addressed the content of the video. The speaker is saying that groups are merely abstractions; that you shouldn't forsake the trees for the forest.

We all want to live in a happy, peaceful society - collectivist or individualist. I don't think theres any denying that. What the speaker is trying to illustrate with his tree/forest metaphor is that the soul of these two ideologies is actually quite different - despite the fact they share the same goals.

Expanding on the tree/forest metaphor, one might define a "good" forest as one with a lot of healthy, thriving trees. If, in walking through a forest, you came across an area where the soil was nutritionally deficient and the growth of all the trees in the area stunted, you might view this forest as somehow imperfect. To correct this flaw, you could cut down the largest tree you can find, grind it up into fertilizer, and spread it around on the soil to help the stunted trees thrive.

What actually happens though, when you cut down a tree to grow a forest, as it were, is you lose sight of whats actually important. Yes, by some definition you are fulfilling "the greatest good for the greatest number" but if you have to lose your soul to achieve some measure of "good", what have you really accomplished? You thought you were saving the forest, but the forest doesn't exist. The forest is only how your mind perceives a group of trees; what existed was a group of trees sharing the same habitat. All you did was kill one tree, and use it to fertilize another.

So my question has to be: What glory is there in forging a perfect society, if it has no soul?

Ya, my friend and I were war gaming about this the other day, running things out to their logical limits. I have no doubt that the spending we did during the cold war most likely kept us safer then not spending it. However, it seems the when one nation finally "looses" and can't afford to keep up the game anymore, the power structure on the other side can't ever dislodge itself. The result is the spending that wasn't meant to last forever does, and the self destruction of that nation is destined as well.

In other words, the rise of two super powers means the eventual fall of two. It is a form of entropy related to the unstable condition they educe in each other. It might very well be that the cost of long term success is eventual failure; that all systems, no matter how good, if they intend to survive will end up imploding. It was kind of a neat topic

And so on. That's why our military spending is outrageously inefficient and excessive, and we keep fighting wars that are irrelevant or counterproductive to our national security. No-bid contracts and cost-plus contracts should be explicitly forbidden by the constitution. The military should stop privatizing essential components of their operation and paying orders of magnitude more than it would cost to do in-house.
