There is no way this guy didn't read this in a robe, whisky, and arched eyebrow. I fully expected to hear him at one point use the word "naughty". I'm a little disappointed.

I don't think it's that unusual to describe drinks by their origin. Cuban rum for instance is very much a thing, as is American Whiskey vs Scotch Whisky vs Irish Whiskey (or the highly regarded Japanese).

I wouldn't know one way or the other for the Thanksgiving vid. Scalloped potatoes are a thing here though I had some last night.

You wouldn't associate Whisky with Japan, but last year (2015) there were several that were awarded "best in the world":

I don't know anything about the awarding organization or review process, but it was a wide-spread enough story that it wasn't just a marketing blurb.

For what it's worth, as an Irish whiskey drinker (in both senses of the phrase) I can tell you that the nicest whiskeys I've tasted from outside Ireland and Scotland are Japanese, including a Santori whose name eludes me.

In case you're interested, next comes Indian (a lovely tipple called Amrut Fusion), followed by a few nice American samples... I'm not a big fan of bourbon, hence the placing.

As for the spelling thing, yes, usually Whisky is Scotch and Whiskey is Irish, but that's not 100% true, and if that's your worst spelling mistake after a few then you're doing well.

Whiskey doesn't come from Scotland. However, whisky does. Maybe that's the one you're thinking of...?

This is actually a pretty basic trick : water and alcohol don't have the same density (water is more dense ~1g/ml whe, alcohol is usualy below 0.8 at ambiant temperature). When the card is moved, gravity is pulling the water. But as the pressure in the two glasses need to be constant, it makes the whisky goes up. You could do that trick with vodka too (but then hard to see the trick). Some oils should work too, depending on how it's made. I'm wondering how milk would behave now, and if the trick would work well with hot salted water and cold distilled water...
