Fastest UFC Knockout Ever

newtboy says...

With the AVERAGE price for tickets being over $675, I 100% agree, even if the warm up matches were good.
The main event should definitely last longer than the introduction.
IMO there should be at least one good backup fight scheduled in the event the main event is 30 seconds long or cancelled. Multiple incredibly short Tyson fights in the 80’s proved that audiences feel cheated by such short fights.

I'd ask for my money back. That was WAY too short for my expectations. A fight should take long enough for me to at least finish my drink and popcorn! Just listen to how upset that crowd is! What's this world coming to anyway?

The Biggest Science Story of the Week

newtboy says...

*doublepromote someone else finally noticing global dimming as a significant factor in global warming.

Global dimming from excess sulfur dioxide may be responsible for cutting the current excess anthropogenic heat in the system by between 15% to 50% depending on the study.
https://www.cnbc.com/2022/10/13/what-is-solar-geoengineering-sunlight-reflection-risks-and-benefits.html
What this means is, if we stop polluting tomorrow, the CO2 and other greenhouse gases will continue to warm us at the same rate for decades to centuries, but the sulfur dioxide that has blocked between .25 to 2 degrees Celsius temperature rise will be gone almost immediately, and a significant sudden rise in temp will be the result kicking off or feeding more feedback loops.

While it may seem he’s onto some global warming solution…just put more sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere…that ignores the lower growth rates and lost solar production it causes by deflecting a significant percentage of sunlight, both adding to net CO2 added to the system.
The incredibly scary part is the whitehouse and other international governments are actively researching ways to inject sulfur dioxide into the upper atmosphere despite knowing it has so many issues.

There’s no easy fix.

Record Breaking Python Caught In Florida

newtboy says...

Water temperatures in South Florida have hit 97 degrees twice this week, and gulf waters are in the 90’s. Pythons swim, especially in warm waters. Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, and Georgia better get ready for a python invasion that destroys their coastal fauna.

The fourth major insurance company (Farmers) is leaving Florida, with 6 medium sized companies going under in the state in the last year…all because of that non existent global warming that isn’t happening and the costs that therefore aren’t involved. Many others have stopped selling new policies.
DeSantis blames wokeness….so I guess capitalism is woke now. Enjoy being a communist. The biggest insurance company in the state are now the socialist government policy writers. 😂
Good thing it’s all a hoax…you can buy cheap uninsurable oceanfront land and retire. Go all in, it’s the only way to invest.

Meanwhile ocean temperatures right before hurricane season are in the mid 90’s…but that won’t cause more hurricanes or sargassum because it’s not real…hoax hoax hoax! 🤦‍♂️

Marine Biologist-Why Have Billions of Snow Crabs Disappeared

newtboy says...

I expect this is just the beginning.
Populations of marine animals will migrate to new areas less suited for them (or try and fail), causing disruptions in their new location, spurring more migrations….
When this happens, local fishing industries collapse because their prey is gone and new invasive species either aren’t edible or aren’t caught with the gear they have (like Lionfish, inedible to most fish and mammals, and all but impossible to catch except by spear fishing).
Between ocean acidification, deep water warming, overfishing, invasive species, pollution, loss of ice packs, and other as yet unknown factors, the ocean’s ability to produce food is going to be severely limited in the near future. It already is, in fact.
The crab collapse isn’t the canary in the coal mine, it’s not even the first miner to drop dead. It’s like 1/4 of the entire night shift just disappeared….and they are all the engineers that keep things functioning.

This is like a massive corn blight on land. It not only kills the corn, it takes out everything that relies on corn too, like pigs, chickens, cattle, goats, pretty much any livestock, and an insanely large percentage of the calories humans eat too. A shitload of the ocean relies on crab meat, and more rely on crabs to keep the ocean floors clean….important if we don’t want clouds of hydrogen sulfide erupting from the ocean making all coastal states dead zones.

Overtaking With A Steam Engine

luxintenebris says...

The 1924 model Doble Series E steam car could run for 1,500 miles (2,400 km) before its 24-gallon water tank needed to be refilled; even in freezing weather, it could be started from cold and move off within 30 seconds, and once fully warmed could be relied upon to reach speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour (140 km/h).

steam was a thing. alone w/electric cars. what really was impressive was the steam driven airplane.
