Inspirational Crazy Talk - Matthew Silver Performance Art

aaronfr says...

That's Matthew Silver. He's not crazy, he's a provocative clown who operates from a considered philosophical basis (you can agree with him or not). I spent a fair amount of time observing and talking to him over the span of a few weeks at Union Square in NYC. Great guy! Yeah, he's a little off sometimes but people who dedicate themselves to thinking about big societal issues and taking some action to subvert those things which they perceive as dangerous tend to be.

Some of those reaction shots were just great!

I wonder if any people that weren't in on the planning stage of the event decided to join in, go pantsless, and follow the mob to Union Square?

New York Times: Thinking Positively?

joedirt says...

NYTimes coverage of it here:

http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/11/12/pranksters-spoof-the-times/

In an elaborate hoax, pranksters distributed thousands of free copies of a spoof edition of The New York Times on Wednesday morning at busy subway stations around the city, including Grand Central Terminal, Washington and Union Squares, the 14th and 23rd Street stations along Eighth Avenue, and Pacific Street in Brooklyn, among others.

The spurious 14-page papers — with a headline “IRAQ WAR ENDS” — surprised commuters, many of whom took the free copies thinking they were legitimate.

The paper is dated July 4, 2009, and imagines a liberal utopia of national health care, a rebuilt economy, progressive taxation, a national oil fund to study climate change, and other goals of progressive politics.

Man, someone get me a collectors copy of that. *promote

I think I was actually there when these guys were playing in Union Square.

Real strong sound. Could hear it all the way down the tunnel.

...What was I doing in Union square anyway?

Oh, now I remember. I think I bought some bread from 'Garden of Eden' that day.

It was a good day

Obama faces racism in West Virginia

Doc_M says...

Don't mind my poking, lesserfool, it was slightly tongue in cheek. However I find it more and more so that urban folks are NOT in fact more educated than smaller town folk (with the exception of true hillbillies). They are simply educated in different areas, and people in both places are poorly educated in certain areas. Yuppy elitism is a huge annoyance to me. I've met too many yuppies who only believe what the nuts at Union Square tell them on T-Shirts and Posters. My town is small and rural, but LOADED with huge minds.

Anyway, even if Obama did have some Muslim history, he left it behind so who cares. His church might be a disgrace, but he essentially disowned it recently so who cares. He has at no time implied the things that Wright preached were true. He never said the US made HIV and he obviously isn't a racist. If people want to encourage people not to vote for him, there is enough fodder in the issues themselves to work with. They don't need to dig around in the mud.

P.S. If you nominate Hillary, there's no way in Hell that any republican is going to cross the lines to vote for her. With Barak... not so.
