Police video of semi speeding into cars and auto mall

cloudballoon says...

Early footage seems to show the truck driving on a really wide pedestrian sidewalk? Is the truck driver an incel? (ref. to incidents we had here in Toronto, Ontario in Canada)

Why American and European Trucks Are So Different

luxintenebris says...

as long as the driver has a large-mouth bottle, all american trucks have toilets.*

did read that there was a correlation between bladder cancer & truck drivers. was surmised, that holding your toilet had a part in the troubles. maybe, will have a definitive answer when amazon workers start having the same issues.

also many uti's.

read this reading up on school bathroom policies. a lot of uti's & colon-related problems - kids' tracts lose the ability to feel the urge & end up w/constipation and incontinent issues - in schools w/"hold it or lose recess" rules. (special place in hell, or the backyard, for those enforcers) - so the theory might hold water.

(a long drive for o̶n̶e̶ two puns.)

* "Most of us do carry pee bottles. But you have to stop to utilize them. I don't have enough hands to steer, shift, hold the bottle & direct Little Richard in the right direction all at the same time. Stopping to water the flowers is no longer an option, as it could lead to a sex criminal(sic) charge for indecent exposure."

Right? A bit too close to accomplice for my taste.

I think the same way about slim Jims. Only tow truck drivers and cops have a legitimate use for that tool, and I’m pretty certain people have been charged for having them (possibly in conjunction with getting caught in the act of breaking into cars though).

I’m pretty sure a tool specifically designed for breaking locks open and useless for anything else would satisfy the “intent” portion. A good prosecutor could successfully argue that point. A screwdriver might be carried for any number of uses, this is only for opening locked stores (the only places with those kinds of locks that I can think of). It’s certainly enough for arrest if not conviction.

He's not selling "burglary tools" anymore than Home Depot is, but i know what you're saying. It sure doesn't feel right for him to sell what he does.

By California law it's no more a burglary tool then a screwdriver is. Intent to break in must be proven for the tool to be deemed illegal to be in possession of. California Penal Code 466

Car Hauler Vs Amtrak train

Ashenkase says...

Looking up at speed, especially if there was a curve could derail the train. That train was at speed and even if the engineer locked it up it would have been the same result. Another reason why the brakes might not be engaged is that the engineer ducked down into a part of his cab that is a bit more safe... remember those guys take the brunt of these types of collisions sometimes. I really feel for the poor truck driver... he sounds like his livelihood just vanished and he is realizing it.

newtboy said:

Ok, I understand the train likely couldn't stop in time, but it sure looked like it didn't even try to slow down. Was there even a driver up front watching the tracks? It appears to be a long straight track section with excellent visibility. I would expect the train to be under full emergency braking before the impact, but it doesn't look like it is. Hmmmm.

Car Hauler Vs Amtrak train

"To those who wonder why all crossings aren't rebuilt so that auto haul trucks specifically can clear them... first, this would cost an ungodly amount of money - for one specific type of truck. Professional drivers wouldn't let themselves get caught in this situation. Carhaulers ride very low and their drivers know this. They know this as a fact. I'm a 30-year veteran truck driver, and that includes auto haul, and there is no way a professional auto hauler would have even attempted to get over that sharp crest.

Trailers only bottom out if the drivers puts it there. Trailers only hit low bridges if the driver puts it there. In short, trucks only go wherever the driver puts them - and a low-slung trailer is a hazard the driver is responsible for knowing how to negotiate. Period.

Absolutely no sympathy for this idiot who could very well have killed any number of people. My thoughts are with the locomotive crew, seeing that truck looming ahead and knowing this could very well be the end of their lives and there's nothing they can do about it."

I dunno it depends. We used to have two years of compulsory military service and while you could get some basic qualification like truck drivers licence, for 99% of people it was two lost years of bigotry and bullying.

Car Cuts Off Semi Truck

wtfcaniuse says...

The car driver indicated before having a seizure and changing lanes?

I find it easy for the car to be hidden from the truck driver in a blind spot. I find it impossible that the entirety of the truck was in the car's blind spot.

If a truck was to keep all vehicles out of their blind spots it would be almost impossible to drive.

BSR said:

Maybe not an idiot. The driver of the car could have been having a seizure.

I'm sure the truck driver thought the same thing and decided to teach the idiot a lesson at any cost.

As far as blind spot is concerned, the truck driver should have kept the car in view if there was a blind spot at all.

Car Cuts Off Semi Truck

jimnms says...

You realize that the camera is mounted at the center and top of the windshield, so it has a larger field of view than what the driver can see. The driver is to left and not sitting as high, so there is no way the truck driver could see the intentions of the car. It is 100% the car's fault because you NEVER merge into traffic that is overtaking you, especially a big ass truck.

Khufu said:

Also, the truck shouldn't be following a hundredth of a second behind the truck in front and when it was obvious the silver car was going to do the lane change there was ample time to take the foot off the gas, this was a 50/50 at fault if we're honest.

Protesters try to stop truck with motorcycle

Mordhaus says...

Protesters were trying to stop the truck from leaving and reportedly were approaching with knives to take out the tires. The truck driver had other ideas.

I fully support peaceful protest. This was not peaceful in any way. In fact, the local news tried to blame it on the driver of the truck.

Florida man clings to semi at highway speed

Megaweapon says...

Not sure who is crazier, the truck driver or the Floridaman. Why would you not pull over immediately? Trying to shake the guy off like you're in an action movie will only get you jammed up in court.
