I think channel assignments is an odd place to take a stand, but I don't have a problem with it. I would suggest that it's probably better practice to give a warning first. By warning I mean do the whole nochannel thing and, if it's added to the invalid channel again, then hobble.

I'm all for the big dogs flexing some muscle around here but, as @blankfist alluded to, if you intend to do it fairly, you've got your work cut out for you. There are or have been a number of high-ranking members who abuse the shit out of the lies invocation in particular.

If you're looking for a way to find top videos, you can go to the Front Tab, and then select Top Sifts. You can then choose a range of 24 hrs, 1 week, 1 month, 6 months, 1 year, or all time. Here's an example.

Or, if you're looking to find videos that have achieved a minimum number of votes, you can use Advanced Search, then select your Sort Order, and then select Vote Threshold. Here's an example. You can narrow the search even more by selecting which channels you want to include in your search.

I have two points to make:

1. There are already ways of finding videos with a lot of votes.
2. I think channels should help describe a video's content, not the number of votes it received.

You're *bestof invocation would give a quantitative measure, not any type of description of video content. I don't think it's a good idea, but then that's only one man's opinion. For what it's worth.

I think something in the language I used above makes me sound more pissed off than I am. Well, if you want to talk about change, I'd like it if people stopped using the term in both the overt negative sense (gay = bad/rubbish) and the more subtle sense (harder to define, but 'gay as comedy' sorta sums it up). The former is much easier to combat, and the latter is so pervasive in our culture now that I felt it was hopeless to even mention it.

The more I think about KP's video and description the more it bugs me. If I was browsing a feminist site and they posted a comedic video about cats in boxes, I wouldn't add that to the femme channel... isn't that a fair analogy? And saying "I guess homosexuals like to laugh too"... there seems something quite insidious there. I have to counterbalance that though, because I know KP is a great guy!

It isn't a problem with the word itself that I have, it's the usage, so renaming 'gay' to 'homosexuality' wouldn't help - in fact, if the sift had a louder queer community I think they'd already have mentioned something about 'gay' not being inclusive enough. I don't think channels can be renamed, anyway.
